An Oceanside City Councilman is proposing a tax credit for companies who hire Oceanside residents and pay them at least ,000 a year.Councilman Christopher Rodriguez says he wants to reward Oceanside businesses who hire locally. The proposal, which the City Council will initially discuss Wednesday, would pay Oceanside companies ,500 for each new hire who lives in Oceanside and is paid that minimum salary. "It's a big problem, housing affordability in North County," Rodriguez said. "North County, Coastal Oceanside, we're up and coming. It's more expensive to live here for sure."Rodriguez said his proposal is a starting point and that he is willing to move on the numbers based on council feedback. If there is support, city staff could analyze the proposal and return in 120 days with a concrete plan.Business groups such as the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce expressed support for the plan. Peter Rodriguez, an operations manager at Beachfront Only, a vacation rental property management firm, said the credit could help his company. He says Beachfront Only often hires Oceanside residents because they are close to most of their properties. The company has two openings that pay about ,000 a year. "The ability to have one of our assistant managers down the street is kind of a selling point," he said, noting that he did not plan to specify Oceanside resident in a job ad. 1397

DB's investigation found the FAA nor Boeing is disclosing evacuation test data "for the newest (and most densely seated) versions of the most widely used jet, the Boeing 737."It also found tests to ensure all passengers may safely leave a cabin are "dangerously outdated." They do not reflect how densely packed coach class seating has become, the report says."No coach class seat meets the Department of Transportation's own standard for space required to make a flight attendant's seat safe in an emergency," the DB reports. An Indiana man faces charges for leaving a loaded gun in the car with his family as he shopped, after his 3-year-old daughter accidentally shot her mother, police said.Shanique Thomas, the woman who was shot, told police she was unaware that Menzo Brazier, 21, was carrying his weapon when they left their residence in Michigan City, Indiana.They brought along their children, a 3-year-old and a 1-year-old, the Merrillville, Indiana, Police Department said. Brazier asked if Thomas wanted to join him as he went to a nearby store and tried on clothes.But Thomas is seven weeks pregnant and told police she was feeling ill. So she decided to stay in the car, which was parked in the lot in Merrillville, with the children while Brazier shopped.Brazier left the loaded Glock19 9mm handgun between the center armrest and the front passenger seat, police said. His 3-year-old daughter got hold of it, and Thomas told police she heard a "loud pop, like a balloon." Then she realized the blood she saw was coming from her own body.The bullet went through the driver's seat where she was sitting and struck her back.She got out of the car to make sure her children were safe. That's when she found the gun, now in the backseat. Brazier was charged with two counts of criminal recklessness and two counts of neglect of a dependent."We just heard screaming," Hadassah Zirkle, a Plato's Closet employee, told CNN affiliate WLS. "We ran outside with a bunch of other people."The children were placed in custody of the Indiana Department of Child Services and remain there."The first thought was to get the kids out of there," Rebecca Todd, another employee, told WLS.
