She's on the school's track team and JV basketball squad. Along with the usual coarse load, she will be taking college entrance exams. Frost has just added something else to her plate."During these times, people should think of ways to push themselves outside their comfort zone to help," said Frost.Keenly aware of how families are juggling the challenges served up with distance learning, Frost decided to offer free zoom tutoring sessions in math and English for local elementary and middle school students."I know how difficult school can be. I struggled in elementary school ... With the added stresses of distance learning, I'm just want to do my part to help these families and to help the kids excel," said Frost.Frost posted her services on the Nextdoor app, even put out an application. She already has four kids signed up and that number is expected to grow. Depending on the response, she could recruit her friends to create a tutoring club to help more families. Frost says she hopes other teens will also step up and volunteer their time tutoring as well."Instead of thinking of these times as a pause, you can think of it as a time you can change your life and the lives of others. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Some late-night fun is heading to the San Diego Zoo, for the park's "Nighttime Zoo" festivities this summer.The special after-hours celebration runs June 16 - Sept. 2, keeping the zoo's gates open until 8 p.m. for live music, performances, and special animal encounters.Guests can check out trampoline acrobatics, traditional music and dance at Africa Rocks, the roving Chameleons band, or the Jambo! parade on Front Street. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Seven people are dead after contracting a flesh-eating bacteria linked to black tar heroin use in San Diego.County health officials said nine people who injected black tar heroin were admitted to county hospitals between Oct. 2 and Nov. 24 with a bacterial infection called myonecrosis, which is a severe soft tissue infection that destroys muscle. Of those victims, seven have died. The patients range in age from 19 to 57 years old.RELATED: Sixth death reported during San Diego's current flu season“People who use black tar heroin are not only at higher risk of dying from an overdose, but also more prone to developing myonecrosis and wound botulism,” said Wilma Wooten, county public health officer.One confirmed case of wound botulism linked to black tar heroin use was also reported in October — the first confirmed case in the county this year.Wound botulism, which attacks the body’s nerves, is also linked to heroin use. People who inject illicit narcotics like black tar heroin are at a higher risk of developing both infections, the county says. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Several San Diego events this week will resume as planned in the face of the county's increased precautions surrounding the coronavirus.County leaders cautioned the public Thursday to practice common-sense actions to protect themselves from not only coronavirus but the current flu season as well, as several large-scale events are set to headline the weekend.This week, other major events in the U.S. were outright canceled over coronavirus concerns, including South by Southwest spring festival in Austin and Miami's Calle Ocho and Ultra music festivals. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Students at three Vista Unified School District secondary schools are pivoting to virtual learning on Thursday.The district confirmed Vista High School, as well as Roosevelt and VIDA middle schools, are making the switch after a positive COVID-19 case at each school.According to rules the district's School Board adopted in late October, if one school has two or more positive cases, the whole school will shift to virtual learning for 14 days. If three secondary schools see one case each, the schools would have to do the same -- which is what happened in this case of Vista High, and Roosevelt and VIDA middle schools.The schools are expected to return to in-person learning on Dec. 1, according to the district website.Three other Vista Unified schools -- Rancho Buena Vista High School, Madison Middle School, and Vista Magnet School -- also went back to virtua
