BRUSSELS, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- China expected France to take new steps in pushing the European Union (EU) for positive policies toward China, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said on Monday.The relations between China and France were of important influence to China's links with the EU, said Wen during a meeting with French President Nicolas Sarkozy on the sidelines of an Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) summit in Brussels.China attached great importance to developing ties with France and appreciated France's willingness to enhance cooperation with China, said Wen. Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao (L) meets with French President Nicolas Sarkozy in Brussels, Belgium, Oct. 4, 2010. He pledged that France would work with China to jointly advance France-China and EU-China ties.Premier Wen made a five-point proposal on advancing Asia-Europe cooperation when addressing the opening of the ASEM summit.Wen arrived in Brussels for the summit after concluding his visit in Greece earlier in the day. He is also to attend the a China-EU summit in Brussels and then continue his four-nation visit which also will take him to Italy and Turkey.

BEIJING, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- China saw a record number of road trips by travelers during the week-long National Day holidays that started Oct.1, data from the Ministry of Transport (MOT) showed Thursday.Travelers logged in a total of 474 million journeys on the roads between Oct. 1 and 7, up 10.9 percent from the same period last year, MOT spokesman He Jianzhong said, adding that the average figure per day was 67.71 million -- a new record high.He said a big increase in short- and medium-distance trips for sightseeing and visits to families and friends contributed to the boom.The country's transport authorities had to deploy 910,000 medium- and large-sized coaches nationwide per day to cope with the transport surge, he added.The waterways sector recorded about 8.66 million journeys during the seven days, up 25 percent from a year earlier, he said.

In the series of meetings, China will review with other countries the cooperation that has been carried out and discuss how to further promote the integration process of East Asian cooperation," said Assistant Foreign Minister Hu Zhengyue.Hu made the remarks at a press conference Thursday afternoon in which officials from the ministries of Commerce, Education and Finance briefed the press on Premier Wen Jiabao's scheduled attendance at the meetings.The meetings, lasting from Oct. 28 to 30, will include: the 13th summit between China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) (10+1); the 13th summit between ASEAN, China, Japan and the Republic of Korea (ROK) (10+3); and the fifth East Asia Summit.Wen will also attend a meeting with the leaders of Japan and the ROK.Hu said China hopes the meetings would promote good-neighborliness and boost cooperation between China and the other Asian countries."During his visit, Premier Wen, together with participating leaders of other countries, will review the achievements of China-ASEAN cooperation, 10+3 cooperation, and East Asian cooperation, as well as cooperation concerning East Asia Summit. BEIJING, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- Foreign direct investment (FDI) in China in September rose 6.14 percent year on year, compared with a growth rate of just 1.38 percent in August.China received 8.384 billion U.S. dollars in FDI last month, compared with 7.602 billion U.S. dollars in August, the Ministry of Commerce (MOC) said Friday.The September figure brought the total amount for the first nine months to 74.34 billion U.S. dollars, MOC spokesman Yao Jian said.
