In a Facebook Live interview Thursday with company founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Dr. Anthony Fauci reiterated that America is making costly mistakes in fighting the novel coronavirus.Fauci, the White House's top expert on infectious diseases, blamed some states — without naming them specifically — for "skipping steps" and reopening too quickly."You've got to do it correctly. You can't jump over steps, which is very perilous when you think about rebound," Fauci said. "The proof in the pudding is: Look what's happened. There really is no reason why we're having 40-, 50-, 60,000 (new cases per day) other than the fact that we're not doing something correctly."Fauci urged Americans not to look at social distancing restrictions in opposition to a return to economic normalcy, but as a means to rebounding."We should be looking at public health issues as a gateway to getting the economy back," Fauci said.Zuckerberg agreed with Fauci — and even took a dig at the Trump administration."It's really disappointing that we still don't have adequate testing, that the credibility of our top scientists like yourself and the CDC are being undermined and until recently parts of the administration were calling into question whether people should even follow basic best practices like wearing a mask.," Zuckerberg said.Fauci's hour-long conversation with Zuckerberg comes days after the White House's top trade expert Peter Navarro published an op-ed in USA Today in an attempt to discredit Fauci. President Donald Trump later said that Navarro "shouldn't be doing that," and USA Today has said the piece did not meet the paper's fact-checking standards. On Wednesday, in an interview with The Atlantic, Fauci called the episode "bizarre," and urged other White House staffers to end political infighting regarding the pandemic.Once a staple on television — both news interviews and in the White House's daily coronavirus task force briefings — Fauci has been notably absent from the airwaves in recent weeks. When asked by The Atlantic if the administration was curtailing his TV appearances, Fauci said he couldn't comment, but added that "I think you know what the answer to that is."Trump maintains that he and Fauci have a "very good relationship." 2261

IMPERIAL BEACH, Calif. (KGTV) - Matt Henry, a father of six and avid surfer, says he's always had a positive attitude."It's partly just who I am," he says. "Before getting sick, I was so happy. I mean, if I were a puppy, I'd be wagging my tail all day long."The sickness he's referring to is an inoperable brain tumor, diagnosed four years ago. It affected his mood and personality. But it never affected his spirit."I think I had an attitude of like, this isn't gonna stop me," Henry says. "I've got six kids and a whole life to live. This is not enough to stop me."After surgery to remove part of the tumor, Henry learned to manage his symptoms. Doctors told him his tumor was growing slowly, giving him time. He decided to use that time to live his best life."I called it bucket list living," he says, and he shared his adventures with his family on his YouTube page. He also uses the hashtags #StayStoked and #InoperableMeetsUnstoppable on social media. Now he's sharing something new. Henry is part of a worldwide clinical trial for a new drug called Vorasinedib. A form of it has FDA Approval for treatment of some conditions of Leukemia. The study will see if a different version can help slow brain tumors' growth with a specific type of mutation, which Henry's has."If this trial works and then it's gonna help a lot of people, so I'd love to pave the way," he says.UC San Diego's Moores Cancer Center is one of the clinics taking part in the trial. Director of Neuro-Oncology Dr. David Piccioni says this new drug can be a way to delay harsher forms of treatment like chemotherapy or radiation."The idea behind the trial was trying to come up with something that might sort of kick the can down the road," says Dr. Piccioni. "It's a slow-growing tumor. But it is growing, and it is something (Matt) wants to do something about. And that's sort of the point of this trial."As he's going through the trial, Henry is posting videos about it. He peppers them with his sense of humor and hope. It's his way of showing that if he can keep a positive attitude through this, the rest of us can persevere through our challenges as well."I'm terminal. But the truth is, we're all terminal. I mean, life is a terminal disease. So, make it a big point to make today matter, make today count, and leave others better than you found them."Matt's family has a GoFundMe page to help pay for medical and other costs. 2415

IMPERIAL BEACH, Calif. (KGTV)— The San Diego Sheriff’s Department is looking for a mother of two accused of stealing thousands of dollars from her children’s school. Last week, the department’s financial crimes division issued a public warrant for 30-year-old Kaitlyn Faith Birchman for felony embezzlement.Birchman was the President of the Imperial Beach Charter School’s PTA, until she was voted off the board in March. Months before, board members said they began noticing a lack of funds.“There were thousands of dollars that hadn’t been paid,” current PTA treasurer Elizabeth McKay said. McKay told 10News, she began connecting the dots last year when vendors from previous years continued to bill the PTA saying they hadn’t gotten paid. That’s when McKay, a former Coronado Police Department Sergeant began investigating. When she contacted the bank, they told her their account no longer existed. "We were very lucky that the bank was willing to work with us to put together a paper trail,” McKay said. “The checks she had written to herself and signed herself. ATM withdrawals that weren't anywhere near Imperial beach or had anything to do with a PTA event."In March, the board confronted Birchman. They had a Sheriff’s Deputy come to the board meeting to explain exactly what “embezzlement” meant."She [Birchman] said that it was just a misunderstanding,” McKay said. “It was a lot of blind faith that they thought if she says everything is okay, then everything must be okay."At the end of the meeting, Birchman was removed from the Board. Now the Sheriff’s department is looking for the woman they said stole directly from kids, forcing the PTA to cancel students field trips and special events. “I want her to think about her own kids. She needs to at this point, make things right by taking responsibility of her actions,” McKay said. “That's the best lesson that she can teach her own children. And to make herself a better person from here."Birchman’s children no longer attend Imperial Beach Charter school. McKay said with the generous support of the community and a large donation from General Mills Box Tops, this school year, the PTA is financially stable again. They also made it a point to make all transactions transparent to all members. 2269

How does someone who relies on his voice for a living, such as an auctioneer, keep it in top form? You may be surprised to find out what it takes to keep talking up success. As exciting as it is to be in the seats during a live auction, imagine being the man behind the microphone.  "I just love excitement," said professional auctioneer John Korrey. "It's an art."Korrey has been a professional auctioneer for more than 20 years, time he's spent solidifying his sound."There's not any two auctioneers that sound alike," said Korrey. "I can sit here and say countfive, 10, 15, 20, but when I put a chant to it, 'I bid five dollar bid now ten now fifteen fifteen twenty now twenty twenty thirty,' see I'm rolling my tongue and I'm adding some rhythm and I'm breathing."Leading auctions, sometimes for hours on end, has taught Korrey one important thing."We're not a machine," said Korrey. "If it's equipment breaks ... a starter down ... you put a new one in."When my voice goes down I have no wage, I'm done," he said. That's why Korrey spends so much time at the Colorado Voice Clinic, working with Kathe Perez to make sure his voice is okay."Let's start off with an easy feeling of breathing," Perez instructed Korrey. Then the two go through vocal exercises together. "Let's bring it down a key," Perez said. "A big brown bug bit a big brown bear, a big brown bug bit a big brown bear."It's not just vocal exercises that keep his voice in check. A camera goes down Korrey's throat and gives doctors a look at his vocal chords in action."The strobe exam is an artificial form of slow motion that lets us look at the actual vocal folds as they produce sound," said Dr. David Opperman with Presbyterian/St. Luke's Medical Center. "We can pick up subtle abnormalities in the way the chords are moving, if there's a tension difference between the right and left side.  And it's really revolutionized what we do in the voice industry."Opperman said it's not just people like John who need to take care of their voice. Really it's anyone from teachers to customer service operators who does a lot of talking. He says staying germ-free, resting your voice for a time and rinsing your nose with salt water, can all help. From old-school voice training, to high-tech analysis, who knew it takes a combination of care you can't see from the stage, to keep Korrey's voice, and the auction, going strong. 2468

How far would you go to get the potholes in your neighborhood noticed? One of the more common frustrations motorists have in the Detroit area is the feeling that some potholes are ignored until they become dangerous. 234
