DEL MAR, Calif. (KGTV) - A woman was struck and killed by a Coaster train during rush hour Wednesday.The Coaster came to a stop at 111 11th Street in Del Mar. Deputies from the Sheriff's North Coastal Transit Enforcement Unit arrived at the scene around 5 p.m. Deputies say the northbound Coaster Train was traveling around 48 mph when it struck the woman, killing both she and her dog as they attempted to cross the tracks. Both the woman and the dog died at the scene. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Sheriff's Department's non-emergency line at (858) 565-5200. 620

(KGTV) - Several homes have been burglarized during the past week in the hills of Olde Del Mar.Neighbors believe they're targeted because they're very freeway accessible; burglars can make a quick getaway.Michelle Angles was a victim."We're so close to the freeway that criminals are coming here because it's an easy pop onto the freeway right after they burglarize. We've had our car broken into; thousands of dollars of things taken."Monday afternoon, just minutes before two homes around the corner and a few blocks away were burglarized, her home surveillance video caught three shady characters ambling down the street."The video shows three young men walking along the sidewalk and they stop right here and you see them looking around and talking very softly.  They noticed the camera and immediately started walking away and one of the young men.. you can see him stop and walk up the grass and he looked into a window next door.  So they were casing houses in the neighborhood," Angles said.At the break-in five blocks away, thieves ransacked the house; stealing jewelry, electronics, cameras and photographic gear.  They also left behind an autographed Steven Tyler guitar with the authentication paperwork right next to it.  They also left many fingerprints on furniture they moved around.  The homeowner said they fed the dog, too; and though she appreciates that the dog wasn't hurt, she's hopeful the fingerprints will lead to arrests. 1517

DANE COUNTY, Wisc. — A Whitefish Bay boy who underwent heart surgery, and a piglet that jumped out of a moving truck. These two completely different events would serendipitously come together to inspire our community, which is why it is Positively Milwaukee.It has been a long journey for six-year-old Tristan Zick and “Maxwell the Pig.” They met for the first time at Heartland Farm Sanctuary, just outside Madison.To say Tristan is a fan of pigs would be an understatement.“Pigs are my favorite animal," Tristan squealed. "I love piggies!”Maxwell made it to the sanctuary after leaping out of a truck to his freedom. He is now all healed from his wounds.This is something Tristan can relate to. He had heart surgery nine months ago, and so did his stuffed pig.His mom Stacy adds, “What was wonderful was that he was able to take care of the little pig, and I think that alleviated his pain because he was looking after his little stuffed pig. It was so cute!”When Tristan’s birthday rolled around this year, they came across Maxwell’s story. In lieu of gifts, the family raised money to help the piggy recover. The family even hosted a drive-thru bake sale, where the family baked pig-shaped cookies.Stacy shares what blew her away most of all, “[The sanctuary worker] asked what Tristan’s birthday was, and I told him. Frank Baum's classic "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.""The Fair's theme is quite special to San Diegans, because Oz author L. Frank Baum is thought to have found inspiration for at least 3 of his 14 Oz books during his extended stays in Coronado," Katie Mueller, deputy general manager of fair time operations, said. "Though most people know Oz only through the famous movie, the Fair has chosen to bring the books to life, including a few differences that will be a surprise to most. For instance, Dorothy's famous slippers are silver, not ruby."SAN DIEGO FAIR 2018: BY THE NUMBERSThe fair will run from May 31, 2019, to July 4, 2019, and be closed on Mondays and Tuesdays in June.Fair officials say San Diegans will get to journey to Emerald City and enjoy education exhibits, wicked carnival rides, and more fair fun they've come to know and love.The Toyota Summer Concert Series will also return with 27 nights of entertainment already announced for the fair's Corona Grandstand Stage.
