SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Police are looking for the thief who committed a brazen robbery at a South Park metaphysical shop, stealing a ,000 crystal ball in broad daylight in front of store staff and other customers.The theft occurred Monday afternoon around 12:30 p.m. at Crystal Blue Vibrations, San Diego Police said. "This was a lot worse than we thought," co-owner Andrew Lucas told 10News. "That's when we went to the video tape and it showed everything."The thief could be seen casually walking through the store, chatting with an employee behind the counter. He then walked over to the front display, which included several large crystal spheres. He reached in to grab an expensive one, but knocked over a shelf, leaving shattered glass all over and drawing the attention of the employee. However, it appears the employee did not realize the man was attempting to steal the item. While the employee was focused on cleaning up the mess, the the thief can be seen grabbing the crystal ball, placing it on the ground, dribbling it like a soccer ball to the front door, then bending over to pick it up and walk out. "I thought I'd seen it all," Lucas said. "Yeah, it's pretty brazen. It's heartbreaking."Lucas says he plans to limit how much access customers have to certain items in the future. "And more security, but I guess that's what the world is coming to."A police report has been filed. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Parents at a charter school in Chollas View are sounding the alarm after learning the fate of their founder and current director is now uncertain.This past spring, Patricio Ramirez graduated from Gompers Preparatory Academy with a full scholarship to San Diego State University."My son is first generation. This is a dream come true," said his mother, Theressah Rodirugez.But Theressah and her husband Victor, who have another son in 9th grade, are suddenly worried for his future."I am heartbroken," said Victor Ramirez.He's heartbroken after learning San Diego Unified plans to end a unique agreement to loan out staff to the school, which began when the school was founded in 2004."It was one of the lowest performing schools in the district. Very violent campus and gang infected," said school alum and education advocate Ellen Nash.Nash says when the school made the switch to a charter school, the district agreed to loan out a handful of staff, including then principal Vincent Riveroll, along with college counselors and support staff."He changed the culture to a college-going campus," said Nash.Nash says Riveroll set high educational standards, recruited and trained teachers, and implemented tutoring, after-school and summer school programs.This past spring, nearly 100% of the school's senior class was college bound."In an underserved community, they have a star in that community," said Nash.She worries it will turn into a fallen star without the school district's longstanding support, and the presence of Riveroll.In a memo released by the school district, officials point out there is more legal liability in loaning out staff, as the district has ended these agreements district-wide, thus turning the schools into traditional charter schools.School district officials points out the school already reimburses the them for the staff members' salaries. Children must be 18-years-old and younger to qualify for the free meal.No registration is needed and the meals are absolutely free, according to the school district.Children can receive the free meals at Montgomery High School (3250 Palm Ave., San Diego) or Sweetwater Union High School (2900 Highlands Ave., National City) Monday through Friday from 11:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. 740

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Normal Heights will become the testing ground for 7-Eleven's newest store strategy aimed at young consumers.The company will open a location of its "Evolution Store" concept at 3504 El Cajon Blvd. "in the next month or so," a company spokesperson told 10News.The store, geared to have a millennial appeal, will offer consumers options like made-to-order coffee and smoothie drinks, kombucha and cold brew on tap, and self-serve frozen yogurt.
