We wish you a successful and wonderful World Cup," Jia told Mahlangu.Looking to the future, Jia said China would like to work with South Africa to deepen cooperation in all fields and bring bilateral partnership to a new high.Mahlangu proposed the two countries learn from each other and work closely in trade and investment. He also reaffirmed that South Africa would adhere to the one-China policy.Jia and Mahlangu agreed on furthering the exchanges between the CPPCC and the National Council of Provinces of South Africa.On China-Africa relations, Jia said China is committed to boosting the all-round relationship between the world's biggest developing country and the continent with the largest number of developing countries.Jia said China has paid much attention to implementing the eight new measures introduced by Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao last November in Egypt, which included debt cancellation, agriculture production, infrastructure and education.Jia said China would help African countries cope with the challenges of the international financial crisis and seek sustainable development.Mahlangu praised the role of China-Africa Cooperation Forum, saying South Africa will work with China to carry out the mechanism and deepen China-Africa cooperation.South Africa is the last leg of Jia's 10-day African tour which has already took him to Cameroon and Namibia.Jia will also travel to Johannesburg and Pretoria to continue his visit to the country at the southern tip of Africa.He is scheduled to meet with South African President Jacob Zuma on Tuesday afternoon.

YUSHU, Qinghai, April 19 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao visited quake-hit Yushu in northwest China's Qinghai Province Sunday, vowing to help victims rebuild their homes as most of them now settle in tents with basic needs met.The 7.1-magnitude quake, which struck the Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Yushu Wednesday morning, had left at least 1,706 dead, 256 missing and 12,128 injured, as of 10 a.m. Sunday.THERE WILL BE NEW HOMESIn a morale-raising visit to quake-hit Yushu, Hu assured locals of new homes and schools and steadfast relief work."There will be new schools! There will be new homes!" The man was later taken to hospital.Rescuers had saved 17,000 trapped people and a total of 6,870 people had been pulled out from under the rubble of collapsed buildings, among whom 6,110 survived, Miao Chonggang, deputy head of the China Earthquake Administration's quake relief and emergency response department, told a press conference.Miao said currently more than 15,000 rescuers, including over 11,000 from the People's Liberation Army and armed police, 2,800 firefighters and special police forces, and 1,500 earthquake and mine accident rescuers, are still searching for quake survivors in Yushu.

  

YICHUAN, Henan, April 6 (Xinhua) -- The death toll after a central China mine blast last week has risen to 40,with 6 still missing, local authorities said on Tuesday.An official with the rescue headquarters confirmed Tuesday that 98 people were working underground in the Guomin coal mine in Yichuan county when the blast occurred at 7:20 p.m. on March 31. 57 were lifted to the ground unharmed, 35 were killed and six are still missing.The explosion also killed five and injured one on the ground, the official said.The illegal coal mine owned by village head Wang Guozheng was poorly managed and even does not have a payroll list. That's why the dead and missing could not be identified, the official said.Ten people allegedly accountable for the accident are under control by police, including mine owner Wang Guozheng, who was previously given a reprieved imprisonment sentence in 2009 for covering up a mine accident.Work safety authorities ordered the mine to suspend operations after a gas outburst on May 1, 2009. Production ever since has been illegal, said a statement from the Henan Provincial Administration of Work Safety.
