Here are a few tactics that the experts recommend.Check pricing guides. Because of limited inventory caused by factory shutdowns, the price of some cars has risen, Weintraub says. Begin by checking car prices on sites such as Edmunds, TrueCar and Kelley Blue Book. But keep in mind that these are not real-world prices.Shop multiple dealerships. Get apples-to-apples lease quotes from at least three dealerships to find your best deal. Tell the dealer the amount you want to pay in drive-off fees, the length of the loan — three years is the “gold standard,” according to Hall — and the number of miles you want to drive. Based on this, the dealer will give you a monthly payment. Every part of the deal is negotiable.Cast a wide net. Car factories were closed during the shutdown, so choices may be limited for a few months. Some manufacturers’ websites allow you to search multiple dealerships to find the right model in your preferred color.Keep an eye on the miles. Understand how many miles of driving are included with the lease agreement. In most leases, 12,000 miles a year is standard. (KGTV) - Camp Pendleton Marines and Sailors started training Friday to help firefighters at the Creek Fire near Fresno."They're the right people for the job because they're Marines and Sailors," Commanding Officer of the 7th Engineer Support Battalion, Lt. Col. Melina Mesta said. She described the traits Marines and Sailors hold as well as their training that covers responding to practically every kind of disaster.Two hundred and fifty Marines and Sailors volunteered to train to help firefighters. They deploy Saturday to learn more in the Sierra National Forest. Lt. Col. Mesta said by next week they will be on the fire line.On base, clumps of a couple dozen Marines in neon yellow shirts and forest green pants learned how to shelter in place if a fire overcomes them. They have a bag about the size of a loaf of bread containing what looks like a plastic tarp. They shake the tarp and cocoon themselves on the ground, crucial training that could save their life if they're overcome by the blaze.Military Liason with the U.S. Forest Service Frank Guzman explained why these crews are so vital, "our crews, who start in the southwest maybe, they're just tired and they've been doing this since April and we don't have anyone else to go to."Guzman said they are already utilizing the National Guard and resources from Canada and Mexico. Urias is part of the first wave that will come out of Camp Pendleton. They are training another group so they can be ready for the future, whether that is far away or right here in San Diego."If the season continues like this there's always that possibility," Guzman said the lack of rain created these dire circumstances.Currently, 106 large wildfires are burning across the Western U.S., according to the National Interagency Fire Center, and nearly 6.7 million acres burned this year. CARLSBAD, Calif. (KGTV) - “Right now, it’s worse than I’ve ever seen it in my life. I see a new face come through here every day,” says Gregory Parada of Carlsbad. He has been homeless for several years.The City of Carlsbad reports there’s a growing number of homeless people in the community. A team of specially-trained police officers have been doing homeless outreach for the last eight months. As of last week, the City Council approved a 5,000 contract with Interfaith Community Services which will provide two full time socials workers to assist with outreach in the field. On Saturday, 10News was granted permission to ride along with law enforcement during “compassion enforcement”, as the city calls it. “That's as simple as connecting them to a family member [or they] might have hygiene needs and we have hygiene kits that we got from a bunch of nonprofits," says Sgt. Bryan Hargett. These officers are working to get the homeless population the items and services they need. The city of San Diego still has a much bigger homeless population than Carlsbad. According to San Diego County’s WeAllCount report, there are 4,912 homeless people in the City of San Diego. There are only 210 homeless people in the City of Carlsbad, but that’s up from 160 homeless people in Carlsbad last year.Davye Sauermilch tells us she’s considering getting help after her interactions with the officers. "My boyfriend's now in rehab because of these guys,” she adds.“I guess they protect me. I feel fine about them,” says Parada. Sgt. Hargett explains, “If they don't trust us, we're not going to be able to work together.” He adds, “One of the things we're learning about being out here is consistency. It could take us 30 contacts [with a person] and on the 31st they're like, ‘Hey, I want help now.’”Outreach coordinators will report back to the City Council on the progress of the initiative later this year. 1927
