SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Tommy Bahama is known for its selection of tropical clothes and button-up shirts, but will soon add exotic drinks and dishes to its list in Mission Valley.The retail chain says it's set to open a Tommy Bahama Marlin Bar at Fashion Valley Mall in Spring 2020. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The San Diego Police Department says pedestrian fatalities are going up in California - so they're cracking down on drivers, pedestrians and those violating laws that pertain to motorized scooters. All of this, just as new reports show a flood of scooter-related injuries backing up local emergency rooms. Wednesday night SDPD sent out targeted patrols to downtown and Lincoln Park. Two spots where pedestrian and bike collisions have increased in the last three years. In many cases, traffic violations led to those crashes. 10News watched as officers ticketed more than 50 people, and gave out more than 20 warnings. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The University of California system has appointed its first-ever Black president in the system’s history, Cal Matters said Tuesday.Michael V. Drake will become the 21st president of the University of California.Drake is making the move after leaving The Ohio State University last week. There, he served as the university’s president from 2014 to 2020.Drake was also chancellor of UC Irvine for nine years and served as the University of California vice president for health affairs from 2000 to 2005.“Much has changed in the 15 years since I was given the privilege of becoming chancellor at UC Irvine, but not my absolute belief in this great University and its time-honored mission,” Drake said. “I look forward to working with the regents, chancellors, students, faculty, staff, alumni, and our broader community as we, together, guide the University through the challenging times ahead. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The San Diego Blood Bank will test all blood donations for SARS-CoV-2 antibodies from now through the end of July.The blood bank says it will use those test results to help identify people who can donate convalescent plasma. Donors who test positive for antibodies will be able to donate COVID-19 convalescent plasma the next time they donate.The plasma can then be used to treat coronavirus patients.The test will be able to detect if a person's immune system has developed COVID-19 antibodies, whether or not the person showed symptoms. It will not detect if a person has an active infection or recent exposure to someone who is infected.To donate, donors must be at least 17-years-old, weigh 114 pounds, and be in overall good health. The blood bank says the test is authorized by the Food and Drug Administration for emergency use. All reactive and nonreactive results will be reported to the California Department of Public Health. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The Port of San Diego announced Wednesday they've selected a developer for a new pod hotel concept near San Diego Bay.STAY OPEN was chosen to develop and operate the new low-cost, pod-style hotel concept that would be located on Pacific Highway between the Port's administration building and Palm Street.The concept envisions 33 rooms with eight to 12 pods per room. Each pod would include a single-occupancy bed, storage locker, power supply, ventilation control, privacy screen, and free Wi-Fi. Rooms would share one bathroom with shower facilities. And space on the hotel's rooftop would be reserved for a restaurant, bar, and outdoor seating open to the public.An exact price for an overnight stay in a pod was not released, but STAY OPEN partner JUCY Snooze offers the pod rentals in New Zealand starting at about per night.The goal behind to concept is to offer an inexpensive for travelers, similar to a hostel.
