VISTA (CNS) - A man who detained two juveniles and took their skateboards in Vista while posing as a sheriff's deputy pleaded guilty Monday to a charge of felony false imprisonment and in a separate case admitted calling in a false report of a bomb threat.Abraham Joseph Nava, 24, will receive credit for jail time served and be placed on three years probation when he is formally sentenced Aug. 27.Nava was arrested June 14, days after the sheriff's department was contacted about a suspect claiming to be an undercover deputy and launched an investigation.During interviews with several employees from businesses in the Main Street area of Vista, investigators learned that the suspect had passed out fake business cards and was interacting with juveniles, said sheriff's Sgt. Jason Scroggins.Investigators also learned that two juveniles were detained by the suspect and had their skateboards taken, he said.After identifying Nava as the suspect, investigators got a warrant to search his home and discovered several pieces of San Diego County Sheriff's Department-specific uniform items, including badges, Scroggins said.A box of fraudulent sheriff's department business cards were also found, according to the sergeant. (KGTV) - A six-year-old Vista boy said he was approached by an unknown man in a car Monday night who asked him if he wanted pizza.Erika Bristow said her son was playing on their driveway when the man drove up and tried to get the boy’s attention.“He definitely realized immediately it wasn’t a safe situation,” Bristow said of her son, who ran inside to tell them about it.Her son has special needs and is normally very friendly, according to Bristow. So over the past year, she and her husband have been reinforcing the “stranger danger” lesson. Earlier this week they said the topic was even addressed during their son’s karate class.After his son told them about what happened, Craig Bristow said he ran out to the driveway to look for the car. He said he saw it up the street parked behind some trees before the driver sped back down the road.He said he caught a look at the car and the driver but was too distracted to take down the license plate.“All those thoughts are coming through your mind. It’s like a parent's worst nightmare,” he said.They called the sheriff’s Ddepartment, which sent out patrols, but they could not locate the car. The Bristows described the vehicle as a new, white Honda Civic hatchback with roof racks and a sunroof.The family said they did not get any pictures of the car and so far have not heard from any of their neighbors if the car was captured on surveillance cameras.Erika Bristow said the incident has shattered her sense of safety on their winding, quiet street in Vista.“One hour I’ll just cry. (CNS) - The Vista Unified School District fully reopened its schools Tuesday morning, becoming one of the first in the region to do so, even as San Diego County appears poised to slip back toward more restrictive COVID-19 tiers as infections surge.The district, which has 29 elementary, middle and high schools, eschewed the more cautious measures some other school districts are taking, moving into its "Phase 3" reopening plan. The plan, "Vista Classic" allows every school in the district to reopen at full capacity. Parents and guardians will still be able to keep students in "Vista Virtual," the district's distance-learning program, if they so choose.The district said it will attempt to have social distancing as much as possible but will allow as many as 38 students in a single classroom, so desks will not be spaced six feet apart.ABC 10News was at Vista High School as, for the first time in more than seven months, students with backpacks were seen walking to school.Some students told ABC 10News they with had mixed reactions to coming back.One Vista High student said, “I’ve been wanting to come back because I miss going out and interacting with people.”Another student added, “I don’t want to catch the virus and spread it to my family.”A rally last Thursday by teachers and parents at Foothill Oaks Elementary School attempted to dissuade the Vista Unified School Board from reopening Tuesday, with many educators believing the safety measures inadequate.According to KPBS, plexiglass barriers were not provided to teachers. Instead, they were given PVC pipes and plastic liner to create makeshift protection from students returning to in-person learning.Keri Avila, president of the Vista Teachers Association, said on the first day back they’re already seeing issues that need to be addressed to ensure that everyone stays safe.“The problem is it’s not equitable throughout the district. What other classrooms have others don’t have. And we just want the safety for all of our members and students,” Avila said.The reopening of the Vista district comes as the county is expecting to receive bad news about its reopening status with the California Department of Public Health. Rising case numbers could tip the region into the "purple" tier, the state's most restrictive, as soon as next week. Walmart will roll out a new website next month.The nation's largest retailer announced Tuesday that its redesigned site will offer more personalization, include more vibrant colors and a cleaner design, and feature "relatable photography that showcases real-life moments."The homepage will include a new section that showcases top-selling items in a customer's location.
