A Howard Johnson motel room was covered with so much dog feces and urine, a special crew wearing protective clothing had to be called in to clean and sanitize the room.It was those conditions Perkins Township, Ohio police say a mother and her 3-year-old year son were living in for a month."There was liquid urine and feces seeping from underneath the door," said Perkins Township Assistant Chief Vince Donald.Someone called the Erie County dog warden to check on the condition of dogs in the room.When the warden and police entered the room, they said the walls, floors and bedding were covered in dog feces.The bathroom had three inches of dog urine and feces on the floor. The boy was also covered in dog feces.Police contacted Erie County Children Services who had the child checked out at the hospital, then placed with a family member,The boy's mother, Dezeray Powell, 21, was arrested for animal cruelty and child endangering."The child had feces on his feet and clothes,” Donald said.Powell had been keeping three Great Danes inside the motel rooms small bathroom. The dogs were so malnourished their ribs were showing, authorities said.Erie County Dog Warden Barb Knapp said the dogs are getting fresh food and water and will be nursed back to health.The owner of the hotel said Powell would never let him in the room."We didn't know what was going on in the room, because she never let me in the room," Raghbir Virk said."It was pretty heartbreaking because the child, they don't have a choice. You as an adult make that choice, so that child doesn't have a choice to live in that environment," Donald said.Powell is scheduled to be arraigned in court April 10. The Great Danes will eventually be put up for adoption, but that’s months down the road because they have to rehabilitated. 1888

A Brooklyn professional chef has made it her mission to feed the hungry in her community and help formerly incarcerated women get back on their feet.Sharon Richardson is the CEO of JustSoulCatering.Richardson and her team were preparing a feast on the sidewalk on Hicks Street Thursday.Richardson started her catering business after she got out of prison ten years ago.She created a nonprofit called Reentry Rocks, a culinary internship program that works directly with women just like her.Richardson said she only hires women coming out of prison.“The barriers are hard when you come home and you need a job. We give back food to the community. We know what’s it like to be without,” said Richardson, packing plates of food to go.Richardson decided to give food away, during the pandemic, preparing hundreds of meals for the hungry, twice a week. And, the donations started pouring in.She partners with Pastor Rodney Plummer of the Calvary Baptist Church of Red Hook.Over a hundred women have successfully gone through the Reentry Rocks program and dozens are now working with JustSoulCatering.WPIX's Monica Morales first reported this story. 1151

A large earthquake has been reported off the southern coast of Alaska Monday afternoon. The United States Geological Survey reports the quake measured 7.5 magnitude. Originally, the organization reported it as 7.4 magnitude. It triggered tsunami warnings along the Alaskan Peninsula coastline, according to the U.S. Tsunami Warning System. A Florida motorcyclist is asking for the public's help in finding the driver who smashed into him in an apparent road rage incident. The crash happened at 5 p.m. on Sunday in Sarasota, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office.The motorcyclist, Darin Hendrickson, said he was taken to the hospital for a hyperextended knee, possible fractured ribs and severe road rash. Hendrickson said he was traveling when a car brake checked him. In a cell phone video, recorded by a witness, Hendrickson could be seen changing lanes and driving alongside the Mazda when he motioned for the car to pull over, swinging his arm towards the vehicle.   721
