A Vero Beach, Florida family woke up to a man stomping on their roof, the Indian River Sheriff’s Office says. When deputies arrived, they say Jacob Futch claimed he was having a meeting with a DEA agent on the roof.The family told deputies that they don’t know Futch, and Futch admitted to not knowing who the agent is, according to an arrest report. A man living in the home told deputies he and this three young sons woke up to Futch yelling, howling and walking down the road around 6 a.m. on Nov. 11.Two hours later, the man says they woke up again after hearing Futch on the roof of his home.When Futch was asked if he was under the influence he said he had injected meth at approximately 2 a.m., an arrest affidavit states.Futch is facing a misdemeanor charge of trespassing. A proposed state fund would pay rent for people on the brink of eviction to help them avoid homelessness.The 0 million fund is a key part of Gov. Gavin Newsom's budget proposal to address the state's homeless crisis. The fund, called the California Access to Housing and Services fund, could also be used to support the creation of more housing units and help stabilize board and care housing facilities. Newsom is proposing a .4 billion plan as part of his annual budget. Of that, 5 million would go to investments in Medi-Cal. The proposal also calls for the state using its own excess land for the site of new shelters. That includes open space near freeways, decommissioned hospitals and fairgrounds. The Del Mar Fairgrounds board has held preliminary discussions adding housing on the property. In San Diego County, excess property locations are also in downtown, El Cajon and Oceanside. An additional location deemed excess has instead been assigned to serve as a shelter for migrants seeking asylum. Jewish Family Service will operate the facility, and has requested the location not be disclosed due to security reasons. A visitor to Yellowstone National Park was injured by a grizzly bear while hiking near Old Faithful on Monday.According to a park press release, the 37-year-old woman from Missouri was hiking alone on the Fairy Falls Trail when she encountered two grizzly bears "at very close range."One of the bears knocked the woman down, and she suffered a scratch on her thigh. The woman also received minor injuries to her face from the fall. She declined medical attention.The park said the woman attempted to use bear spray during the encounter."From the injured person's statements, this appears to be a typical case of a mother grizzly bear protecting her offspring following a close-range encounter," said Kerry Gunther, a bear management biologist. "Because this bear was displaying natural protective behavior for its cub, no action will be taken against the bear. Several trails in the area will be closed to give the grizzly family group time to clear from the area."Monday's incident marks the first time a bear has injured a visitor in Yellowstone in 2020. The last time a bear injured a visitor in the park was in June 2019 when a black bear bit into an occupied tent and bruised a woman's thigh.Following the incident, the Fairy Falls Trail was cleared of hikers. One of the eight was shot and she's survived her wounds. The other seven of my congregants were gunned down in my sanctuary. There was nothing I could do.”The gunman, identified as Robert Bowers, murdered 11 people. A swimmer died following an apparent shark attack near Bailey Island, Maine, on Monday, the Maine Department of Natural Resources confirmed.The agency said that kayakers brought the unidentified woman to shore after swimmers saw she was injured from an apparent shark attack. She was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS responders.Swimmers and boaters in the area were being told to remain cautious following the attack.The University of Florida, which has a database of shark attacks in the United States, has not reported any such attacks from 2010 through 2019 off the coast of Maine.
