WASHINGTON, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- China and the United States have agreed to further boost their bilateral relationship toward a cooperative partnership for the benefit of the whole world, President Hu Jintao said Wednesday.The visiting Chinese leader presented the course forward at a joint press conference at the White House with his U.S. counterpart Barack Obama following their eighth meeting in two years.During the talks, conducted in "a candid, pragmatic and constructive atmosphere," the two sides reached "important agreement on China-U.S. relations and major international and regional issues of shared interests," according to the Chinese president.Chinese President Hu Jintao (2nd L) holds a bilateral meeting with U.S. President Barack Obama (2nd R) at the White House in Washington, the United States, Jan. 19, 2011. BEIJING, March 22 (Xinhuanet) -- NASA scientists are testing its next-generation Mars rover, which will land on Mars next year, under extreme conditions at space-simulation chamber in California, media reports said Tuesday.Scientists at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif., say they've installed the Curiosity rover in a space-simulation chamber that can mimic the environment the probe will encounter on Mars.  After the chamber's large door was sealed last week, air was pumped out to near-vacuum pressure, liquid nitrogen in the walls dropped the temperature to minus 130 degrees Celsius, and a bank of powerful lamps simulated the intensity of sunshine on Mars.After the test period, the rover along with other portions of NASA's Mars Science Laboratory spacecraft including the cruise stage, descent stage and backshell -- part of protective covering -- will be shipped to the Kennedy Space Center for final preparation for the launch window from Nov. 25 to Dec. 18, 2011. BEIJING, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- As the traditional Spring Festival season ended two days ago, a new wave of post-holiday travel rush came to China's railway system, the Ministry of Railways (MOR) said Saturday.According to a statement from the MOR, the nation's railways carried 6.49 million passengers on Friday, the first day after the Lantern Festival which ended the festival season.The new wave of passengers mainly included students going back to school for the new semester and migrant workers returning to cities to start work. On Friday alone, 919,000 student passenger trips were made on railways, said the MOR.The ministry expected the travel volume and duration of the new peak to be similar to the previous year, with an average of more than 6 million railway passenger trips a daily.The MOR figures also showed that 166 million trips were made on railways since the Spring Festival travel rush began on Jan. 19, up 6 percent from the same period last year.
