SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The Sisu Academy, a free boarding school for at-risk teenage girls, needs help to get the school year started."We are a little cash strapped right now," says school founder Jabez Labret. "We need to get some cash in the door to get over the starting line so we can access those grant dollars coming this fall to keep the program running."Labret says the school has plenty of money lined up in grants and in-kind donations once classes begin, they need some bridge funding until then.He says the school's mission makes it a worthy cause for donations."This is more than just another school," Labret says. "This is truly about changing these girls' lives."The school will enroll 20 girls this fall, all of them from at-risk situations. They hope to add a freshman class each fall and eventually have 350 students."It could be drug or alcohol issues at home, domestic abuse, homelessness," he says. "It could be that mom and dad both work two jobs and are just struggling to be able to keep food on the table."Labret says a boarding school puts the girls in a stable, focused environment that will help them establish a foundation for the future."We don't just teach the academic side," he says. "We teach them social and emotional skills, the entrepreneurial side, we go out into the community and do community service. It gives us a lot of options to get out of the learning environment."One student who will enroll this fall says she's excited about the prospect."Going to school would help me so that I can get my mind off my troubles at home," says Analys Franklin. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The United States Postal Service is handling nearly 16 billion deliveries this holiday season, a record number.Warren Burton, a program manager at the USPS, says it is a 12 percent increase from last year.“There’s a lot of online shopping,” he said, “a lot more than last year.” As a result, the USPS processing and distribution center at Carmel Mountain Ranch in San Diego added more seasonal workers. About 1,100 people are working around the clock up from the normal staffing of close to 900.“We gear up all year for this time of the year, we know it’s going to be non-stop, high volume-high demand,” Burton added.The White House declared Christmas Eve a federal holiday this year, but Burton says that USPS will remain open on Christmas Eve.“We greatly appreciate the gesture, but we’re going to keep working so we can keep the mail going,” Burton said.He says Dec. 20 is the last day to mail out a package or holiday card to make sure it is delivered by Christmas Day using regular shipping. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The body of a 9-year-old boy swept away by a current in Rosarito on Easter Sunday has been found in Mexico.Authorities say the body of Erik Ochoa was found around 10 a.m. Thursday morning at San Antonio Del Mar.Ochoa lived in Tijuana with his stepfather while his sisters, Zusel and Hilary live in Chula Vista.RELATED: Family searches for boy swept away in Rosarito?Ochoa was with two other children walking on the beach in Rosarito when they were swept out to sea.One of the boys was able to make it out of the current and ran to get help. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The Port of San Diego is taking extra precautions with cruise lines amid heightened awareness surrounding the coronavirus.About 38 ships are expected to dock in San Diego through May, some shops that rely on travelers are concerned business may slow down if cruises are canceled.Some say they've already noticed a change.The Port of San Diego says they installed these hand washing stations once the coronavirus concerns started rising. "Being that people try these on, I always spray them I disinfect them and this is the solution."Smart usually sees a boost in business when cruise ships dock in San Diego.
