An Uber driver says she was carjacked at gunpoint in North Las Vegas and ended in Kingman, Arizona. But she wasn't alone.Donnelda Schuele says an innocent passenger was also caught in the middle of the ordeal that crossed state lines."At one point I was thinking, my poor passenger is really gonna die," Schuele said.Schuele's Saturday Uber pool ride almost turned deadly. She said she picked up a passenger through Uber pool -- a service where drivers can pick-up more than one unrelated customer. She then got another 'ping' to pick up a new customer near 5th Street and Lake Mead Boulevard. A man and a woman got into the backseat at that stop. Not long after she started driving, Schuele says the man pulled out a gun."He goes, 'Go straight. I don't care who you hit. Go straight,'" Schuele said.Hopping on the freeway, they started to make their way down to Arizona."Before the Lake Mead exit, he shoots the gun in the car. He shot it through the floor of the car," Schuele said.She says the man also pistol-whipped the other male passenger sitting in the front seat of the car. "He had hit him on the head with the gun and cracked him really good at the back of his skull,"  Schuele said.The man with the gun kept on telling her to drive towards the mountains."He goes, that's where I'm going to be dumping you guys," Schuele said.She says the man shot the gun out the window several times, hitting a commercial truck."The other passenger is flipping out. I mean he is literally flipping out," Schuele said.As they were passing by Hoover Dam, Schuele says the suspect ordered her and the other passenger to get out of the car. That's when they were able to get help.Arizona troopers said the carjackers continued driving south on State Route 93, leading them on a pursuit. Even though they ran over strip spikes, the alleged carjackers did not stop until they crashed into another vehicle. The man and woman tried to run away but troopers were able to catch them at that point. It was the end of a nightmare for Schuele and her passenger."Thank god for my blessings and that I was able to keep a cool head," Schuele said.An Uber spokesperson says it is investigating the incident and will support police investigation in any way it can. 2355

Andy Parker, whose daughter Alison was killed on live television during a news report two years ago, said Thursday he was considering running for the seat of retiring Virginia Rep. Bob Goodlatte.Parker has been an outspoken critic of Goodlatte, the powerful chairman of the House judiciary committee, for his longstanding ties with the National Rifle Association. Parker's daughter lived in Goodlatte's district, and the father has pushed for gun control ever since she was killed.Parker said he's been talking with his family about the possibility of running for the seat as a Democrat. Parker lives outside the district, and if he were to run and win, his family would have to move."I've got some time to ponder it," Parker said.Parker said he was at the dentist's office Thursday morning when his daughter's boyfriend, Chris Hurst, texted him with the news about Goodlatte's retirement. Hurst on Tuesday won a seat in the Virginia statehouse."I feel like the dog chasing the car and finally caught it," Parker said of Goodlatte not seeking re-election. "I'm just glad to see the guy is finally going to get out of office."Parker said he joked with his wife, Barbara, that she should run, but she immediately ruled out that possibility.The father has been an outspoken advocate for his daughter, who was shot to death during a live broadcast in August 2015. Anyone using public transportation during the COVID-19 pandemic should not just wear a mask while in transit, but they should also leave their mask on while waiting at bus stops, train stations and other hubs, according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance issued on Monday.In guidance published on the CDC website on Monday, the agency "strongly recommended" anyone using public transportation to wear masks during their rides, while waiting at transportation hubs and while boarding planes, trains and buses. The agency also said that all public transportation workers should also wear masks.Not only did the CDC recommend all passengers be required to wear masks, the agency also said that transit workers "should refuse to board anyone not wearing a mask" and require all passengers "to wear masks for the duration of travel." The only time a passenger should remove their mask is to eat, drink, take medication, or identify oneself to a security agent.Transit workers should also be provided with spare masks so they can give them out to riders who are not in compliance, the CDC added.Not covered in the guidance were children under the age of two, those instructed by medical professionals to not wear a mask for health reasons, those with disabilities or mental health conditions who find wearing masks to be difficult, the deaf and hard of hearing or transit workers whose jobs and the safety of others would be jeopardized by wearing a mask.The CDC recommends that all Americans wear masks in situations where keeping six feet distance from others is difficult. ANAHEIM, Calif. (KGTV) -- A man was arrested in Santa Ana Monday in the murder of an Escondido man whose body was discovered in the trunk of a car parked in Anaheim. Orange County authorities held a news conference Wednesday announcing the arrest of Antonio Silva Lopez, 27. As SWAT teams raided the home, they discovered another man inside who had been kidnapped and was being held for ransom, KABC reports. Lopez has been charged with murder along with a felony count of kidnapping for ransom-extortion or to commit robbery or a sex crime, court records show. RELATED: Body found in trunk of abandoned car in Anaheim identified as Escondido manAuthorities also discovered roughly two kilograms of fentanyl along with multiple firearms. Lopez was sought in the death of 34-year-old Adrian Darren Bonar. Bonar’s body was discovered October 17 when an abandoned car was being prepared to be towed from Santa Ana Canyon Road in Anaheim. Upon opening the trunk, officers saw something wrapped in tarp inside that “was a similar size and shape of a human body,” police said.Bonar, according to police, was “known to frequent motels in North San Diego County and Los Angeles County.”Friends said Bonar served in the Army and was deployed to Iraq, City News Service reports. 1277

An early analysis of census data shows California and New York may lose a seat in the House, while Florida would gain two. This could mean Florida in the near future would have more electoral votes than New York.The analysis was done by William Frey, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institute, a nonprofit public policy organization, based on population estimates from mid-2020 released by the Census Bureau.Frey said the estimates released by the Census Bureau show that between July 2019 and July 2020, the population in the U.S. grew by .35%. That’s the lowest annual population growth rate since the turn of the last century, and that could mean the decade 2010-2020 may have the lowest decade growth rate in centuries.This low rate of growth and some “educated estimates” from Frey on new state-level data, could mean that seven states gain representatives in Congress and ten states lose some.One result of the Census is calculating the number of seats in the House of Representatives a state should have. Every decade, the Census Bureau adjusts the number of seats each state receives based on changes in population, the process is called reapportionment.Frey estimates that Texas will gain three representatives in the House, Florida wil gain two, and Arizona, Montana, Colorado, North Carolina and Oregon will gain one. Meanwhile, Alabama, California, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Rhode Island could all lose one representative, according to Frey’s estimates.Changing the number of seats in the House also changes how many votes the state gets in the Electoral College; electoral votes are the number of seats a state has in the House plus two senators.California currently has 55 electoral votes, with the next highest as Texas with 38 votes currently. New York and Florida are next, with 29 each; if New York were to lose one and Florida gain two, it would be the first time Florida had more votes than New York and would make Florida the third most represented state in the House.“This reapportionment will also affect the Electoral College in future presidential elections. There are a mix of “red” and “blue” states among those gaining and losing seats. Thus, it is difficult to predict how these changes will benefit future Republican and Democratic presidential candidates,” Frey wrote in his analysis.Frey’s estimates are based on early data shared by the Census Bureau.
