SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Firefighters are trying to determine what caused a brush fire in Mission Valley Wednesday afternoon.The fire erupted along Interstate 8 and Texas Street near iFLY around 3:00 p.m.Firefighters say steady wind carried flames from a tree across the overpass, catching dry brush on fire near Camino Del Rio.The Texas Street off-ramp from Interstate 8 was closed in both directions due to the blaze. Firefighters say a quarter of an acre was burned in the fire.Thick brush and trees were burned, but no business in the area were damaged. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Four San Diego businesses, including two restaurants and two gyms, have filed a lawsuit seeking an emergency injunction to stop the latest shutdown orders.Under the red tier, both sectors were open for indoor operations as limited capacities. Restaurants were allowed to serve people inside at 25 percent of the normal capacity, and gyms at only 10%.On Saturday, purple tier restrictions will go into effect, meaning businesses like restaurants and gyms must shutdown indoor services completely and move outside.Cowboy Star Restaurant & Butcher Shop, Home & Away Encinitas, Fit Athletic Club, and Bear Republic filed the lawsuit against California Gov. Gavin Newson and the County of San Diego, as well as other state and county officials arguing that the closures go against their rights.The lawsuit states that Newsom and the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) lack the authority to impose the continuing restrictions on California businesses.All four businesses detail the numerous health and safety measures they’ve added to provide a safe environment for staff and customers during this pandemic.“I think it’s pretty clear that the law is on the side of governmental authority to try to get this under control,” said Jan Ronis, an attorney with the Law Offices of Ronis & Ronis. “Why they continue to file lawsuits… it’s beyond me.”Ronis is not involved in this case, but said when the pandemic began, he reviewed emergency legislation available to the government at both state and federal levels.“These laws have been in the book for decades, and governments have used them sparingly, and quite frankly think they’re valid as surprised as I was by the breadth and scope of government authority once these emergency declarations are declared,” said Ronis.He said he had seen similar lawsuits filed across the state during the last several months, and most don’t hold up in court.“I really feel sorry for the businesses, but the fact is this is a monumental health crisis,” said Ronis.Dr. Wilma Wooten, San Diego County’s public health officer, recently asked for the CDPH to allow the county to stay in the red tier. She explained that businesses that would be impacted the most by purple tier restrictions, like restaurants and gyms, are not the cause for the local increase in COVID-19 cases.The lawsuit said despite the data provided by Dr. Wooten, the CDPH still denied the request without any justification based on science or data.Both the law firm that filed the lawsuit and the County of San Diego refused to comment on this matter, stating they do not comment on pending litigation. 2646

Feeding San Diego’s goal is to eliminate these worries and end food insecurity in San Diego. According to Feeding San Diego, giving kids healthy food options will help them succeed in the classroom. “It helps with the snacks and the munching. Instead of some chips or candy, they get some fruits and vegetables up in their system. It makes me feel like a good mom,” Cynthia Correa said. Correa is a mom of four and is part of Feeding San Diego's program in Oceanside, where she visits San Luis Rey Elementary school each month to pick out fresh fruits, vegetables, and other items for her and her family. Correa says the free access has given her some financial relief. “Healthier food seems to be more expensive than junk food. So, it has helped my family a lot. It’s taking the weight off,” Correa said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Family and supporters of Jonathan Coronel stood at the San Diego County Administration Center Friday, demanding justice for the past three years without their loved one.Coronel was shot 16 times by San Diego Sheriff's Deputy Christopher Villanueva in Vista July of 2017."It has been three years of trauma and dehumanization," Coronel's Cousin Rocio Zamora said.Zamora urged defunding the Sheriff's Department, and transferring that money to underserved communities, "to transform them to community empowerment zones. The safest communities don't have the most cops they have the most resources."She also demanded police officers be taken out of schools and replaced with counselors.These demands shouted at a time when law enforcement is under the microscope.Law enforcement said Coronel was a documented gang member with a warrant.The morning Coronel died law enforcement said he ran from deputies. Once Villanueva caught up to Coronel, law enforcement said Coronel concealed his hand in his shirt, forcing Villanueva to fire.A witness said Coronel took off his shirt to show he was unarmed.Law enforcement confirmed Coronel was unarmed at the time of his death."Deputy Christopher Villanueva is the most dangerous gang member in Vista. He is the one who shot Sergio Weick 28 plus times," Zamora said.Sergio Weick, 33, was shot and killed August of 2016 by Villanueva.Law enforcement said he was running from deputies, had knives, and threatened deputies, forcing Villanueva to shoot. Using data provided by the company Truebill, Lendedu analyzed which companies tend to be more generous in negotiating with customers.Satellite service providers were analyzed in the report. Customers of SiriusXM had the highest success rate in negotiations, according to Lendedu. Consumers had negotiation success rates in the 80s with three other companies, Suddenlink, Centurylink, and Dish Network, the report showed.The study went on to note, “When it came to how much companies actually knocked off the average customer’s bill, SiriusXM once again led the way; the average SiriusXM customer was able to decrease that monthly charge by 40 percent or more.
