One-time strangers are capturing the attention of tens of thousands of people on the internet.Their Virginia Beach photo shoot left many people hoping their on-camera chemistry develops into something more.Baxter Jackson says he “was not expecting somebody as beautiful as [her]” when he met Heather John.The nerves quickly settled for Jackson after he saw John for the first time during a “stranger session” photo shoot at Stumpy Lake Natural Area. It’s wild!'” says John.The internet sounded off, saying divine intervention is at work and foreshadowing a future for the two.Photographer Cassie Bailey picked the pair after putting out an ad asking for a single male and female to do a stranger shoot.“I got home and edited [the pictures] and I was just like, ‘Am I ready to share this? What is going to happen?" says Bailey.The social media reaction has been overwhelmingly positive, but some have criticized the close contact of all three strangers during a pandemic.They say they felt safe because they all recently tested negative for coronavirus. “If we all tested negative, I felt that it was completely safe for us to work together for them to be as close for me to be up close to them,” says Bailey.Bailey likely won’t be doing anymore stranger session before returning home to Louisiana next month.As for Heather and Baxter, they say they are not dating - but they do have “at least three dates” planned. In New York City, it easy to hear the present. But to hear the past, you’ll have to step into Rick Kelly’s shop. “Just celebrated 50 years of guitar making,” Kelly says. “1968. I started that. Was the first one I made in high school.” What sets Kelly’s craft apart from other guitar makers is the material he uses.“If you start with really old materials, you're going to have a better instrument,” he explains. The pieces were once part of the deep roots of Manhattan. “Using New York City wood from these old buildings,” Kelly says. “I call it the bones of old New York, because it's the bones of these old buildings from the 1800's down here.” The guitars are handmade of hand-picked scraps of old pine. “We actually have the largest depository of old pine in the world right here in New York City,” Kelly says.All of the building bones is transformed into detailed pieces of playable art. “You can kind of just smell the history back here,” says customer Kelly Wilson. 985

NEW ORLEANS, La. – In the middle of Mardi Gras and just a few blocks off Bourbon Street in New Orleans, there’s an ink master leaving permanent marks on multiple generations. Jacci Gresham is known to many as America’s first black female tattoo artist. When we met Gresham, she was tattooing the jawline of one of her workers. “It’s an honor to get a panther from Jacci,” said the woman getting the tattoo. “Because she’s like the blackest panther of them all.” Gresham started tattooing in an era when women – especially black women – weren’t involved or even respected in the industry. “At that time women weren’t recognized as tattoo artists,” she said. “So, especially to see a black woman doing tattoos was kind of unusual – to see a woman doing tattoos was unusual.” Gresham gave her first tattoo in her home state of Michigan in 1972. After losing her job in the automotive industry, she moved to New Orleans and opened up what would become the city’s oldest tattoo shop – Aart Accent Tattoos and Body Piercing. Along the way, Gresham estimates that she’s inked thousands of people from all kinds of cultures – including a member of the Ku Klux Klan. “It was interesting to talk to somebody from a Klan’s person that would allow a black person to tattoo them,” she said. “And the reason why he allowed me to tattoo him – or so he said – was because I gave a good tattoo.” Gresham believes a good tattoo can help break down old racial barriers while also inspiring younger artists. “I see it every day here,” she said. “We do quite a cross section of people. I have black artists, white artists, Spanish artists. And people are looking for the art. They’re not looking at the who actually did the work.” Now in her 70s, Gresham is still perfecting her craft while adding art to human canvases with the hope her impact lasts longer than the tattoo ink that runs skin deep.“Stay on that grind,” she said. “If it’s in your heart, you can’t give it up.” 1969

Holly is cutting the drive through time by 10 to 15 seconds.For 20 years, worker Orlina has been taking orders and serving up food. She says Holly is one of the most helpful employees on staff. “It’s really fast and helps us with the speed a lot,” she says.The creator behind this artificial intelligence technology is Valyant. Rob Carpenter, the CEO of the company, says as jobs evolve and change, new jobs become available. As with most new technology, Carpenter says they’re still working out all the kinks. “It’s almost understanding the almost infinite ways to that people can ask for a cheeseburger,” Carpenter explains. “There are also the different accents you have to content with and the background noises.” While customers find the idea of Holly fun, their still unsure. “It was awkward,” says one customer. “And humans are just better and more responsive and talkative.” Carpenter admits Holly isn't the perfect employee, but he says in the next five years, you will see more robots at big name stores and fast-food restaurants."Right now, this is ground zero handling drive through,” he says. “Eventually, we are going to start seeing it in more tangible ways, where it can actually carry on a more fluid conversation." Barry Peterson and his wife, Jan, were looking forward to forever. The married journalists were living and working in Asia, until Jan's diagnosis with Alzheimer’s at age 55 cut their forever short. “The hardest thing was watching her disappear a little more,” Barry says. They discussed what Barry’s life might look like without her. “She was very adamant that if something happened to her, which I didn't think was going to happen, that I should go on and have the rest of my life,” he says. CBS Sunday Morning captured video of the couple when Jan moved into assisted living. “I do love him, and just couldn't do without him,” Jan said in the video. Barry was alone, and he had to make a difficult decision. “I really felt that for my survival, my sanity, my desire to have conversations with someone that really understood the process, that I needed to reach out and I did,” Barry says.That’s when Barry met Mary Nell Wolff. Friends encouraged Mary to go on Match.com. She says she later got a message from Barry, who shared his story about his wife's illness. “It just broke my heart,” Mary Nell recalls.Mary Nell had suffered her own tragedy, losing her husband in a bicycle accident. After writing and talking on the phone for a year, she and Barry met in person, and eventually moved in together. With Barry traveling the world for work, Mary Nell took on caregiving responsibilities for Jan. “I felt at peace the moment that Jan and Mary Nell bonded,” Barry says. They called themselves a family of three. “I didn't not love Jan, and I was not going to in any way abandon her, but I loved Mary Nell at the same time,” he explains. “And Mary now loved me, and Mary Nell loved Jan.”Barry shared his experience in his book called “Jan's Story.” He received some criticism, much like the husband of B. Smith--an iconic model and restaurateur who lives with Alzheimer’s—did. B. Smith’s husband, Dan, sent shock waves through social media when he revealed he has a live-in girlfriend while also caring for his wife. “If you're not in it, then you have no right to judge people who are in it,” Barry says. Amelia Schaffer with the Colorado Alzheimer’s Association says Barry and Dan’s stories are really about the importance of early detection and outlining your wishes while you can. “The biggest barrier to having conversations early is that people don't recognize they're dealing with Alzheimer’s,” Schaffer says.Jan passed away in 2013. Barry says if you can understand the love he shared with her and Mary Nell, “then you have understood the matrix of what love is like with Alzheimer’s for people who just want to survive.” 2649
