A major crackdown could be coming to stop those annoying robocalls. New research from YouMail--a company that developed robocall blocking software--shows each person on the country receives about 150 robocalls a year.Alex Quilici, CEO of YouMail, says these terribly annoying calls keep increasing for two reasons. "One is there are more and more scam calls. The second thing that's driving the increase is people aren't answering the phone anymore," Quilici says.Because people don’t answer their phones, it makes the robocallers place more calls, he says.It’s a problem both Democrats and Republicans can agree on.  Senators John Thune, R-South Dakota, and Ed Markey, D-Massachusetts, have proposed bipartisan legislation to increase the penalties for robocalls to ,000. They are also proposing to extend the time after a crime in which prosecutors must bring their case from one years to three years.Commercial robocalls are illegal, but the Federal Trade Commission, which is tasked with investigating and charging those who have violated the anti-Robocall federal law, has a hard time prosecuting offenders within the current one-year time limit. “If you look at the current enforcement efforts, there's been a 0 million fine and million fine that's covered people who've made 100 million robocalls or a couple hundred million robocalls. A Five Guys in Daphne, Alabama has fired or suspended several of their employees after they refused to serve local police officers, the restaurant posted on their Facebook page.According to the Daphne Police Department, on July 7 three Daphne officers entered the restaurant and after realizing they forgot to put their masks on due to the restaurant's mask policy, so they returned to their patrol cars and came back inside wearing their masks.According to WJW, when the officers came back into the restaurant, the employees refused to serve them, so they left and went somewhere else to eat.After hearing of the incident, the restaurant closed so the store and its employees could work with the police department "for further education and customer service training." 777

A federal appeals court has ordered a judge to dismiss the government's case against former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, marking an abrupt end to a years-long legal fight.The New York Times and CNN confirmed the ruling Wednesday morning.Flynn pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI in 2017 about his conversations with then-Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak as President Donald Trump prepared to take office after winning the 2016 election. A digital broadcast network jointly owned by the AMC, Cinemark and Regal chains is adding 200 movie theaters to its distribution of live events.The addition will happen throughout the next year to year-and-a-half in North American, Fathom Events announced this week. Fathom's expansion reaches to more than 1,100 total cinemas and 1,700 screens across the country, a report from Variety states. The expansion is part of an extended agreement with Dish Network that provides the delivery of pre-recorded and live cinema events.Theater chains with screens that will or already do carry live events include AMC, Cinemark, Regal, Harkins, Megaplex, Bow Tie and more.On Thursday, theaters showing Fathom events live will carry an advance screening of the first two episodes from the new YouTube Red Original Series, “Cobra Kai.” The series based on the Karate Kid franchise.Nearly 700 cinemas nationwide will host Thursday's screenings, Variety reported. 987

A California police officer was charged Wednesday in connection with a fatal shooting at an Oakland-area Walmart store in April.San Leandro Police Officer Jason Fletcher was charged with voluntary manslaughter in connection with an incident where he fatally shot 33-year-old Steven Taylor on April 18.According to the Alameda County District Attorney's office, a security guard at the store called police when Taylor tried to leave San Leandro Walmart with a baseball bat and a tent without paying.Fletcher responded to the call and approached Taylor as he entered the store. The officer tried to grab the baseball bat from Taylor, and when he couldn't get control of the bat he drew his stun gun.After firing the stun gun, Taylor stumbled forward with the bat sitll in his hand. According to body camera footage, Fletcher repeatedly asked Taylor to drop the bat. Fletcher then fired his gun once, a shot that proved to be fatal.In its charging statement, the District Attorney's office, claimed that Taylor "posed no threat of imminent deadly force or serious bodily injury" to the officers or anyone else in the store because he had "clearly experienced the shock of the taser as he was leaning forward over his feet and stumbling forward."Fletcher's lawyer, Michael Rains, told the San Francisco Chronicle that he was "very disappointed" that the officer had been charged and that the charges were "undeserved."The decision to file the criminal complaint was made after an intensive investigation and thorough analysis of the evidence and the current law," Alameda County District Attorney Nancy O'Malley said.Lee Merritt, an attorney for Taylor's family, told NBC News that Taylor was experiencing a mental health crisis at the time of the shooting.Fletcher will be arraigned on Sept. 15 at a county courthouse in Dublin, California. 1845
