(KGTV) - As different industries and businesses are given the green light to begin the reopening phase after coronavirus restrictions, one industry says they’re being left in the dark. Brian Nguyen is the owner of two Hillcrest nail salons in San Diego and said they’re upset with the lack of information surrounding when nail salons will be able to reopen in California.“Very frustrated, seeing all these other businesses being able to open and nothing mentioned about us, not even a word,” he said.He said between the two salons they own in Hillcrest, they’ve had to pay around ,000 in rent during the three months of closure, while also losing at least an estimated six figures in revenue.In May, Governor Newsom had said Phase 3 of reopening would include hair salons, nail salons, barbershops, gyms, and movie theaters for counties that meet certain metrics. So far, all businesses on that list have been told either they can open or when they can open, except nail salons.When the closures started, Nguyen said they immediately began planning how to safely reopen. As a nail salon, they already took sanitizing steps and technicians wore masks and gloves, which will continue. In addition, they purchased panels for manicures that will go between the technician and the customer that will be cleaned between customers. All chairs will also be sanitized between people. They will take everyone’s temperatures before entering and are asking all customers to fill out a quick survey about their current health. They also spaced out all stations to add six feet between customers. At first, they will be appointment only. In addition, they added a new touch-free area to wash hands with a touch-free sink and soap dispenser.Hillcrest Nail Lounge employee Sarah Nguyen said it’s been hard to watch her place of work suffer and said she is ready to get back to work.“I want to go back to work, I want to get back to work as soon as possible and I want it now,” she said. “We want to pay taxes. GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — As we get closer to a potential COVID-19 vaccine approval in the U.S., doctors are hoping the public actually gets the vaccine once it’s available.Recent polling from Pew Research shows about 60% of Americans say they would ‘definitely’ or ‘probably’ get a COVID-19 vaccine.Local infectious disease doctors tell WXMI that that number will be just enough to put a serious dent in infections, but the more immunity, the better.Dr. Andrew Jameson, the Division Chief for Infectious Disease at Mercy Health said, “I am optimistic for the first time in a while.”Dr. Jameson added that he’s seeing a bit of light at the end of a very long tunnel with a COVID vaccine approval potentially just days away.“I can tell you right now from what I’ve seen, from an efficacy standpoint, from a safety standpoint, I am going to be definitely getting the vaccine personally and I have zero issues of giving my family the vaccine when it’s available,” Dr. Jameson said.With two COVID-19 vaccines on deck for approval with the FDA, one from Pfizer and one from Moderna, Dr. Jameson is hoping that people feel confident in getting it once they’re able.“If we get about 60% of people immunized and then we also have the natural immunity out there giving us a little bit of extra help, I think that is going to be a huge impact,” Dr. Jameson said.Dr. Jameson said he also understands that people may be wary of such a new vaccine.“Unfortunately, we’ve had a fair amount of skepticism in the community about vaccines before all of this, and now in the setting of this being moved forward pretty quickly, I think there’s probably a little bit of a natural skepticism,” he said.He said the biggest reason he’s heard for not wanting the vaccine is that things are just moving too fast.“Before this, the fastest that we ever had a vaccine get from the beginning to the end to where people were getting it, was four years, and this one is going to be about 10 months,” Dr. Jameson said.Dr. Jameson called the trial and manufacturing process of both companies vaccines, ‘the most transparent’ he’s ever seen and trusts the FDA to leave no stone unturned before approval.“They get all the notes from the doctors, they get all the patient encounter visits from the sites that are doing the vaccine, so they actually get all of the raw data and re-interpret it and re-analyze it themselves for efficacy, so they don’t just believe what the drug manufacturers tell them,” he explained.He wants people to also understand potential vaccine side effects, to make sure they come back for their second dose. HAWAII (KGTV) -- The United States Geological Survey is reporting that an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.0 struck Hawaii Thursday afternoon.According to the USGS, the quake happened about 1:30 p.m., 11 miles south of Fern Acres on the Big Island.The earthquake was just one of hundreds of earthquakes that have swarmed the island, prompting concerns that Kilauea Volcano could erupt.The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory indicated that a volcanic eruption was possible but not imminent. Kilauea is one of the world’s most active volcanoes.The series of earthquakes came after a collapse of a crater floor of Pu?u ?ō?ō, which is a volcanic cone in the eastern rift zone of the Kīlauea Volcano.Since that collapse, about 250 earthquakes were reported in the area into Tuesday evening, according to Hawaiian Volcano Observatory status report.Check out the map below to see the area near where the earthquake hit: 931
