General Motors has already announced plant closings and big job cuts. But it also announced it was adding 1,000 jobs at two other nearby plants, and said that all hourly workers whose current jobs were being eliminated would be offered jobs at another Ford plant.Ford had 202,000 workers worldwide at the end of last year, with about half of those in North America and 54,000 in Europe.GM announced plans last week to close a number of plants worldwide including four in the United States and one in Canada. FULLERTON, Calif. (AP) — The Los Angeles Dodgers say Hall of Fame manager Tom Lasorda has been hospitalized in Southern California. The Dodgers said Sunday that their 93-year-old former manager was in intensive care and resting comfortably at a hospital in Orange County. Lasorda lives in Fullerton. He attended the team’s Game 6 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Oct. 27 in Texas that clinched the Dodgers’ first World Series title since 1988. Lasorda managed the Dodgers from 1976-96, guiding them to World Series championships in 1981 and '88, as well as four National League pennants and eight division titles. 623

Harris County, Texas Sheriff's deputies in Houston were forced to shut down an ATM in Houston on Sunday night after a huge crowd had gathered to take advantage of the machine dispersing 0 bills instead of bills, the Houston Chronicle reported. Rather than trying to recoup its losses, Bank of America announced that it would not force those who were able to snag the 0 bills to repay. “This was an incident at a single ATM in Houston caused when a vendor incorrectly loaded 0 bills in place of bills,” Bank of America said in a statement to the Chronicle. “We have resolved the matter. Customers will be able to keep the additional money dispensed.”KPRC-TV said that the crowd converged on the Houston ATM Sunday night after a man posted on social media, boasting about the transaction. If the vent is emitting a lot of SO2 [sulfur dioxide] or H2S [hydrogen sulfide], they would taste BAD. And if you add sulfuric acid (in vog, for example) to sugar, you get a pretty spectacular reaction.Q: Is it safe to be in Hawaii right now?USGS: The eruption at Kilauea right now is impacting a small portion of the Big Island. Lava flows are active on the eastern tip of the island, in lower Puna, and Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is closed due to the small explosions occurring at Kilauea's summit. But the Island of Hawaii is made up of 5 volcanoes, and only Kilauea is erupting.Even if there were to be a change in activity at Kilauea, it would not impact Hilo or Kailua-Kona (the largest towns on the island), which are located on different volcanoes. The biggest impacts might be vog, but that has been a persistent issue on the island for decades.
