BEIJING, Feb. 11 (Xinhua) -- President Hu Jintao held a telephone conversation with his Brazilian counterpart Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva on bilateral ties Thursday, with both sides expressing willingness to promote cooperation.The Chinese president said China-Brazil relations have been deepening in a comprehensive way, marked by frequent exchange of visits between their leaders and political mutual trust.The Brazilian president's state visit to China last year brought the two countries' strategic partnership to a new level as the two sides reached consensus over a broad range of major issues, Hu said.The two countries have agreed to map out a joint action plan, he said, adding that exchanges and cooperation in various fields have seen new momentum and the two sides have maintained close coordination and cooperation in international and regional affairs.China-Brazil cooperation enjoys solid political foundation and broad prospect for development, Hu said.He said further development of their strategic partnership is in the fundamental interests of both countries and is their common aspiration. BEIJING, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- The Singapore-flagged tanker Pramoni, hijacked off the Somali coast last month, was escorted by a Chinese vessel to the safe waters on Friday, said the Chinese Foreign Ministry."At the request of the Singaporian side, the Chinese 'Chaohu' navy ship successfully conducted the escort mission," said a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry Friday night."All crew onboard the Singapore-flagged chemical tanker are safe and sound and emotionally stable," the statement said, without specifying the route or length of the escort mission.The cargo ship, with five Chinese sailors among the 24 crew onboard, was hijacked by Somali pirates in the Gulf of Aden on Jan. 1."The Chinese escort mission provided the released vessel with necessary supplies and medical assistance," the statement said.Pramoni's captain thanked the captain and crew of the Chinese vessel helping with the escort.China sent its first escort mission to the Gulf of Aden off Somalia in early 2009. Its fourth mission is now part of a multinational coalition of warships patrolling the pirate-infested area.

BEIJING, Feb. 13 (Xinhua) -- The outlook of China's steel industry will be better this year than 2009 as the impact of the stimulus package continues, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) said Saturday.A strong increase in new investment plans would help boost domestic demand for steel while improving external demand following world economic recovery would encourage steel exports, the MIIT said.The implementation of a proactive fiscal policy and moderately easy monetary policy injected ample liquidity into the market and provided the steel enterprises with easy access for fund, it said.However, excess capacity, still weak external demand and rising production costs would all impose pressure on the development of the industry, the ministry said.China's crude steel production capacity was forecast at 700 million tonnes at the end of 2009, compared with 660 million tonnes at the end of 2008.In 2009, China's steel output rose 13.5 percent to 567.84 million tonnes. Its 68 large and medium sized iron and steel companies reaped 55.39 billion yuan (8.12 billion U.S. dollars) in profit in 2009, down 31.43 percent from a year earlier.
