SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - KAABOO Del Mar will become KAABOO San Diego in 2020 as the popular music festival held at the Del Mar Fairgrounds moves to Petco Park. The change was announced by its producers Sunday at the end of a sold-out three day festival, its fifth at the North County location. Concerts will be held on Petco Park's playing field, Sycuan Stage at the Park, Lexus Premier Lot, and the Tailgate Lot, KAABOO officials said. “The location of Petco Park and its surrounding venues in downtown San Diego provides fans and artists alike the opportunity to enjoy everything that the vibrant metro area has to offer. We couldn’t be more ecstatic about this partnership and our relocation,” said Jason Felts, Managing Partner of KAABOO. “Our venue and the downtown Ballpark District offer the perfect setting for an event of this magnitude and further establishes Petco Park as the premier entertainment destination in Southern California. We look forward to hosting an unforgettable and amazing weekend in the heart of downtown,” said Erik Greupner, Padres President of Business Operations. The festival will take place Sept. 18-20, 2020. "The Padres will return for the final 6-game homestand of the season (vs. MIN, LAD) just two days after KAABOO. The team is hoping to be competing for a playoff spot. Maintaining field integrity will be critical," 10News Sports Director Ben Higgins tweeted.Tickets are now on sale, including a 9 general admission pass. VIP passes are available for 9 and 99 and include options such as private restrooms, VIP-only performances, access to onstage viewing, and exclusive meet and greet opportunities. 1655

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — It's been 25 years since President Bill Clinton approved Operation Gatekeeper, the measure focused on the issue of immigrants crossing the border illegally — specifically the San Diego sector. Two key parts of Operation Gatekeeper were surveillance equipment and enforcement infrastructure, like walls and fences. Twenty-five years later, Border Patrol Agent Theron Francisco tells 10News, "Before Gatekeeper this area was in utter chaos, agents were apprehending 1,000 per shift. We had hundred of thousands of apprehensions a year." It's a measure that Francisco says paved the way for Border Patrol today."It's absolutely night and day from where we were back then," Francisco said.Tuesday, those against Operation Gatekeeper held a rally. Former Border Patrol agent Jenn Budd tells 10News, "That was the whole purpose, to push them out here to make it more difficult and dangerous for them to cross. I didn't want to be a part of it but its something I have to admit I was a part of."Budd tells 10News, it's partly why she left Border Patrol, "I left because I felt the policies we were enacting were killing people and what we were representing to the public wasn't the truth." Meantime, Border Patrol agents say it's only helped increase San Diego safety."The days are gone where illegal aliens are running through people's backyards trying to hide from Border Patrol," Francisco added. Budd says, "We need them to work for us, we need them to protect our borders we need them to keep drug smugglers out, but we don't need children dying in their custody and all sorts of things they're doing right now." 1637

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Many kids are starting the school year with a device at home as schools across the state go back in session.Meanwhile, some of their teachers are back in the classroom alone, running classes virtually to help keep some of the normalcy intact."I come to school for the kids," said Tanya Morrison, a geography teacher at West Hills High School in Grossmont Union High School District.Last school year, she taught six classes and saw around 190 teenagers every day."Now, I am waiting for my students to log in," Morrison said.Instead of walking up and down rows of desks, she teaches her twice a week virtual lessons through the computer. Her computer sits at eye-level thanks to a stack of textbooks.Morrison's got two screens, so she can see the teens and the lesson."They should already be working," she said. "They get their assignment at 8 in the morning on our Schoology platform, and they just log-in, and it's kind of self-directed work, and then we move into twice a week Zoom meetings," she said.Preparation for the lesson began days earlier.Instead of a free form approach, Morrison makes a slide presentation to keep the students engaged."I’ll use an app today called Pear Deck, and what it does is it makes Google Slide presentations interactive," she said. "So each slide they have a chance on their end to write a response and it kind of forces engagement and gives them something to do while I'm talking."But even with all the planning, there's still challenges."In the classrooms, I can see that kids are disengaged," she said. "With this, I'm trying to figure out are you really disengaged or do you have a lot of kids in your house, and it's just easy to get distracted."Morrison's been teaching for 16 years.Instead of teaching from home she chose an empty classroom and campus to make sure she's focused on the students as this year's needs are so different. Not everything happens in a Zoom session."Just those normal conversations that might happen in five seconds in the room is like 45 minutes of buildup and email conversations, can I call you now, are you going to answer and those little things," she said. With more than half of the counties in California on the state’s monitoring list, most learning, for now, is at a distance.Morrison doesn't make the rules on how or when kids will be back, but she tries to control what she can."It gives me that passion to keep going and just to see that I do this for the kids," she said. 2481
