BALDWIN, La. — New details are emerging as law enforcement investigates the death of a 15-year-old boy who died under suspicious circumstances in Louisiana.KATC obtained police reports from Oct. 30 when the teen, Quawan “Bobby” Charles, was reported missing from his home in Baldwin and was found dead four days later near Loreauville.Records show that Charles’ mother contacted the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office around 8:10 p.m. on Oct. 30 to report that her son was missing. The mother stated that her son did not come home and had on a West St. Mary High School jacket.SMPSO then dispatched an officer with the Baldwin Police Department to the 600 block of MLK Street in Baldwin.At 8:45 p.m., BPD spoke with Charles’ father and mother who said that he was last seen at around 4 p.m. Police then entered Charles’ name into the National Crime Information Center, which is a nationwide database used by law enforcement to locate missing persons, as a missing juvenile.According to a police report from BPD, Charles’ mother said that she was not present at the time that he went missing because he was staying with his father because the two did not live together. Charles had only recently been allowed to stay with his father for the two weeks prior to his disappearance.Charles’ father told police that he went to the store around 4 p.m., but after returning a few minutes later, he attempted to knock on the door to Charles’ room several times without a response.The father told police that he then used a tool to gain entry into the room and discovered the teen was missing.Both parents told police that Charles had not been a problem at home but had been placed on a curfew by the 16th Judicial District Court because of disciplinary problems at school.The parents told police that Charles did not have any friends and had never left home before without them knowing about it.The police state in the report that there was a football game taking place at West St. Mary High School in Baldwin as well as an event called Boo on the Bayou in Franklin. Charles’ father told police he would begin searching those areas. However, he later contacted SMPSO and said he was not able to locate Charles’ at either location.This is when police entered Charles’ name into the NCIC database as a missing juvenile while being on the lookout for him.Charles’ mother then told police that she would be heading back to her home in Youngsville to check and see if he had returned there.Charles was found dead four days later on Nov. 4 in a rural area off Ed Broussard Road near Loreauville. Since then, some family members are claiming Charles was murdered, and believe police ignored their initial cries for help.The family tells KATC they were told by investigators that Bobby drowned, but that they don't believe that. They cite a graphic photo of his body circulating online.Family members also say Charles left his home with a 17-year-old friend and the teen's mother without permission.Several dozen people, including Bobby's family, people from the community, and an organization called Stand Black, gathered on the courthouse steps Wednesday evening. They're demanding a thorough investigation of the case.The Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office is handling the investigation. Deputies have not said if Charles was killed. IPSO says it's being investigated under suspicious circumstances. AUSTIN, Texas -- Valarie Allman has been throwing discus for 10 years.“When you throw a discus it takes about two seconds, and it’s a combination of power, of grace, of strength… I like to think of it as a dance still," Allman said.She started sophomore year of high school. But it’s her dance background that she credits for her quick progression in the sport.“I had a weird knack for it," Allman said. "I think all those years of learning choreography and spinning and doing pirouettes weirdly carried over to the discus, and it kind of just seemed like a good fit right from the start.”Multiple days every week, she trains hard in the gym guided by her coach Zebulon Sion.“I’m responsible for every facet of her training," Sion said. "So that includes the strength-training concepts, if we do any type of running, fitness oriented things, plyometrics, and then of course the actual throwing.”Their chemistry is undeniable.At only 25 years old, Allman is considered a pro athlete. Her rigorous training is fueled by her desire to be a part of the next Olympics.“When I graduated college, I think that was the motivation to keep training. I missed the team in 2016 by three feet and it was kind of in that moment that I realized that I really wanted to try again,” Allman said.Consistency, discipline, attention to detail. Allman’s focus didn’t falter until she found out the 2020 Olympics had to be postponed.“It was pretty heartbreaking," Allman said. "I mean, to feel like you’ve put in so much to be prepared for it and to be healthy and to do everything right to feel like you’d have a chance to make the team and then for it to be postponed I think it kind of just made me question everything.”“Her motivation to throw kind of was gone a bit for her for a while," Sion said. "And then we kind of got to a point after a month, month-and-a-half of training going well in terms of lifting and training -- our goal was to get fit, get strong and refine the technical model that she has to get to a point where we could be at our best if that opportunity would come.”That opportunity did come. On August 1st in Rathdrum, Idaho, Allman beat the Women's Discus American Record.“I threw 70 meters and 15 centimeters, and the previous record was 69 meters and 17 centimeters.”The three-foot difference that kept her from qualifying for the Olympics in 2016 is the difference she surpassed to become the first and only American woman to throw past 70 meters.“When you’re throwing that type of distance, three feet is significant. So to break it by almost three feet was huge actually,” Sion said.“When they measured the throw and they read out the numbers and it started with a seven I instantly burst into tears. I was absolutely shocked,” Allman said.Allman says 70 meters is the ultimate barrier. In the past 20 years, only two other women in the world have thrown past 70 meters.“Now looking back it’s wild the think it was just a sliver of a difference of giving up when we were on the brink of something incredible,” Allman said.“We could have called it we could have said 2020 is a bust ya know let’s move on," Sion said. "But the amount of time, energy, effort all the things to put in over five months of uncertainty and then for that to happen – I don’t know if I could be more proud.”The same day of her record-breaking throw was the exact day she would have been competing in Tokyo had the Olympics continued. However, with her dedication to improvement, Sion believes there’s a great future ahead of Allman.“I mean I think the goal is just to throw farther and to keep throwing far more often. One person in California has died, and 63 people have been hospitalized.The outbreak started in November 2017. It's unclear where the turkey at the center of this outbreak came from, as there doesn't appear to be one centralized distributor, the agency said. As the number of coronavirus cases continues to climb around the world and disrupts the travel industry, Princess Cruises has announced cancellation of early 2021 trips.“Due to restrictions and limitations with border and port access determined by government and health authorities and the continued uncertainty of airline travel,” Princess Cruises canceled about 30 voyages on two ships.The Island Princess, which stopped at ports around the world, and Pacific Princess, that sailed around South America and Australia, will not set sail until at least April, according to a release from the company.The cancelled voyages include a 111-day around-the-world from Los Angeles.Princess Cruises, which is owned by Carnival, is offering refunds or credit for a future cruise.Carnival Cruises has also canceled some 2021 voyages, and likely won’t return to full capacity until 2022.The cruise company is facing legal action for their handling of passengers when the coronavirus pandemic started this spring.
