CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) — A Chula Vista neighborhood is on alert after an encounter between three young boys and two men in an SUV.Aydyn Mays, 8, and his brother Jaycob, 7, were skateboarding with a friend along Glendora Drive Tuesday afternoon when they say a dark-colored SUV drove up with two men inside."They were about 30 years of age and one was wearing a bright safety vest," said Wendy Mays, the boys' mother.MAP: Track crime happening in your neighborhoodAydyn says the men asked them if they wanted an extra skateboard."They said, 'I have the same skateboard, but way much faster...Just get in the car, and I can take you to my house and I can show you the skateboard," said Aydyn.Aydyn says the men asked each of the boys and all said "No," but the men kept asking and insisting."It seemed like they wanted me to go inside the car," said Aydyn."They were trying to lie to us and steal us. I was scared," said Jaycob.Eventually, the boys ran off and straight to their homes and their moms."The boys came running into the home ... and said, 'Somebody tried to kidnap us!'" said Wendy Mays.Mays says soon after, the mom of the other boy was at her door."It was terrifying. Just made my heart fall into the pit of my stomach," said Mays.The boys' stories matched. Police were called, leading to a search, but the SUV was not found."I'm very proud of the boys getting away and coming to us. (KGTV) -- Hundreds of thousands of veterans and active duty military call San Diego County home, but a group says they are facing big disadvantages when trying to buy a house here.The San Diego Veterans Association of Real Estate Professionals says more than 60 percent of listings in the county won't accept offers with V.A. loans.The federally backed loans don't require a down payment or mortgage insurance. Those eligible in San Diego County can borrow up to about 0,000 without any cash down. "We have served, and the V.A. loan is a guaranteed loan," said Andre Hobbs, a San Diego realtor and veteran who heads the association.Hobbs says the benefit is backfiring for some home seekers in San Diego's ultra-competitive housing market. It's because he says sellers are opting for offers instead that include cash down payment because of a misperception about V.A. applicants."They assume that this buyer is ready to walk," Hobbs said. "He's not motivated."Mark Goldman, a real-estate lecturer at San Diego State University, said there are some misconceptions about V.A. loans, such as that they are more complex. (KGTV) - Two Chula Vista parks closed Thursday due to the threat of falling trees and saturated ground amid a cold winter storm.The City of Chula Vista tweeted the closures about 3 p.m. Thursday.Hilltop Park, 780 Hilltop Drive, and Eucalyptus Park, 436 C Street, are located between I-5 and I-805 in the western half of the city. They will be shut down until crews can remove the trees, city officials said.The ground "is too saturated to access" the trees, according to the City of Chula Vista.All sports fields at both parks were also closed. 572

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - A ruptured gas line forced one building to evacuate in Chula Vista Friday.Chula Vista fire crews discovered a one-inch gas line sheared with gas blowing in the 100 block of 3rd Avenue around 3 p.m. A nearby building was evacuated, according to CVFD.Nearby Fredericka Manor Retirement Community also advised its residents and visitors to shelter in place.Firefighters were not able to immediately determine the cause of the break. CHULA VISTA (KGTV) - Nearly 5,000 people were without power Saturday evening in Chula Vista, according to SDG&E.The outage began about 7:30 p.m. with around 1,700 customers in the dark. It expanded to about 4,800 by 9:30 p.m., according to SDG&E's website.The power was restored at about 10 p.m. SDG&E did not provide the cause of the outage.This is a developing story. 10News will update when details become available.  445
