SHANGHAI, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for firm confidence and determination to further reform and opening-up, and accelerated efforts to increase city core competitiveness to better serve the country's reform and development, during his two-day inspection in Shanghai, which ended Wednesday.

On the Korean Peninsula issue, Xi said that the situation on the peninsula has shown positive changes over the past year, and the peninsular issue has on the whole gone back to the right track of dialogue and consultation.

Xi called on the two legislative bodies to explore the potentials for more cooperation, continuously improve the legal and policy environment, and protect the legitimate rights and interests of each other's investing enterprises and people.

"Pragmatic cooperation serves as a ballast and thruster of China-Japan ties," Li said.

Xi stressed that China is still in a period of historic opportunity, with a bright future but tough challenges ahead. As long as China maintains its strategic resolve and focuses its attention on its own things, the country is set to meet its targets, he said.
