Nursing homes are facing a new mandate for COVID-19 testing.Officials at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) say if they're not doing it, they'll be fined 0 a day or over ,000 for each instance of noncompliance.The government says nursing homes need to do widespread testing of residents and staff if any resident shows symptoms or tests positive.Nursing homes will also be required to test staff more often, depending on the virus activity in the area.The Trump administration says it is giving facilities .5 billion to help with costs.Nursing homes continue to raise concerns about the cost of this testing and additional expenses like personal protective equipment and additional staffing due to the pandemic.The mandate also comes as their sources of revenue have changed along with the number of residents declining.With the added costs and revenue change, LeadingAge, the association of nonprofit providers of aging services, is hearing from some of its members that they may be forced to close. At least one nursing home in Rhode Island has had to do it already. Others are looking at the possibility of having to consolidate or alter the services provided.Nursing homes get paid through Medicaid, Medicare and private payments. According to a Kaiser Family Foundation analysis of Certification and Survey Provider Enhanced Reports data, nationwide 62 percent is paid through Medicaid, 26 percent is paid through private payments and 12 percent is paid through Medicare.Post-acute care through Medicare is a big revenue source for nursing homes. That means you're coming out of the hospital and need to rehab for a few weeks in a nursing home."With elective surgeries being closed down, there is no steady flow of residents who need that level of care. OTAY MESA, Calif (KGTV) - A peace gathering was held Saturday night for the family of Maribel Ibanez, the woman shot and killed at an Otay Mesa Church's Chicken.About 100 people lent support at the gathering, telling Maribel's mother, Emma Carla Merino, she wasn't alone.Maribel Ibanez and two male employees were shot Nov. 6 by a man who has yet to be found. The two male victims survived.At Saturday's gathering, a mural was painted of a flying candle with the name Maribel in script underneath. People spoke of love conquering violence. Musicians played, flowers and candles were passed out, and there were prayers."I feel hurt but I feel peace because she is already resting," Merino said. (KGTV) - A car reportedly flew off a freeway in North San Diego County, causing a chain reaction collision.A 20-year-old woman driving a Buick reportedly careened off westbound SR-78 near El Camino Real, through the fence separating the freeway from the Vista Way, and collided head-on with a Ford Thunderbird being driven by a 47-year-old woman traveling eastbound.The collision set off a chain reaction, sideswiping a Nissan van towing a small boat. The boat then came loose from its trailer and flew into the westbound lanes of Vista Way, striking a Toyota Prius, being driven by a 43-year-old man, and a Chrysler 300 being driven by a 95-year-old man.The driver and a male passenger in the Buick both sustained major injuries and were airlifted to Scripps La Jolla hospital. Another male passenger sitting in the back seat of the Buick received minor injuries and was taken to Palomar Medical Center.The driver of the Thunderbird was slightly injured as well, but not taken to a hospital. No other injuries were reported.Police are investigating what led to the Buick driving off the freeway, but said they do not suspect alcohol or drugs to have been a factor. 1216

(AP) — A worker doing an inspection on a popular central Florida thrill ride was killed Monday after falling more than 50 feet.Orange County Fire Rescue tweeted that firefighters responded to the Orlando StarFlyer ride early Monday after receiving a report that the 21-year-old man had fallen. The unidentified worker was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.The ride wasn’t moving at the time.At 450 feet, the Orlando StarFlyer is billed as the world’s tallest swing ride.
