ALPINE (CNS) - A 55-year-old man died today on the Anderson Truck Trail east of El Capitan Reservoir near Alpine, authorities said.Cal Fire and units from the Alpine Fire District responded to a call for help to the scene of a remote area rescue at 10:20 a.m. Sunday, according to Capt. Isaac Sanchez of Cal Fire.People who were with the man in distress performed CPR and a paramedic took over life-saving efforts upon arrival, Sanchez said.The man was pronounced dead at the scene, the captain said. After making a go at in-person classes, a jump in COVID-19 cases on campus has prompted the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill to shift to virtual only for all undergraduate courses, the university announced Monday.UNC will start distance learning on Wednesday.The university reported 129 confirmed COVID-19 cases last week, and a jump in its positivity rate from 2.8% to 13.6%. The university said it has tested 954 students with 177 in isolation and 349 in quarantine. The university said that most of the infected students have mild symptoms. The university said graduate, professional and health affairs schools will continue to be taught as they are, or as directed by the schools.UNC will allow students to cancel residence hall housing without penalty in an effort to depopulate the campus.“There are no easy answers as the nation navigates through the pandemic,” UNC President Peter Hans said. “At this point, we haven’t received any information that would lead to similar modifications at any of our other universities. Whether at Chapel Hill or another institution, students must continue to wear facial coverings and maintain social distancing, as their personal responsibility, particularly in off-campus settings, is critical to the success of this semester and to protect public health.”The university’s football team is still slated to play this fall, along with other members of the ACC. Alexandra Canosa, an associate producer on the Netflix series "Marco Polo," has filed a lawsuit in Manhattan Supreme Court alleging Harvey Weinstein raped, physically assaulted and verbally abused her over the course of five years.Weinstein "constantly threatened" Canosa and "made it clear that if she did not succumb to his demands for sexual contact or if she exposed his unwanted conduct there would be retaliation, including humiliation, the loss of her job and loss of any ability to work in the entertainment business," court documents allege.The lawsuit claims the former film executive insisted on meeting with Canosa in "isolated environments" and demanded sex. "Marco Polo" was produced by the Weinstein Company and debuted in 2014.Weinstein attorney Phyllis Kupferstein issued the following comment Tuesday to CNN:"Ali Canosa was a friend who had worked for The Weinstein Company for 10 years, traveled the world for the company and held several influential roles; overseeing many projects throughout the years. From someone who has been thought of as a good friend, involved only in a consensual relationship, these claims are not only mystifying to Mr. Weinstein, but deeply upsetting, and they cannot be supported by the facts."CNN received two updates within an hour of the statement. Albertsons wants to scoop up Rite Aid.The deal announced Tuesday will create a new company with about billion in annual sales and 4,900 stores across the country.Albertsons pharmacies will be rebranded as Rite Aid and some Rite Aids will continue to operate as stand-alone stores. Rite Aid CEO John Standley will become CEO of the new combined company.Walgreens wanted to buy up all of Rite Aid in 2015, but federal regulators nixed that agreement on antitrust grounds. In September, the two companies announced a scaled back version for nearly 2,000 of Rite Aid's stores. That left Rite Aid with around 2,600 stores.The move will allow Albertsons to become "a fully integrated one-stop-shop," Miller said in a statement.Rite Aid jumped 24% in pre-market trading.Albertsons is a privately held company and Rite Aid is public.
