SEATTLE (AP) — One of two people hit by a man who drove his car onto a closed Seattle freeway and into a crowd protesting police brutality has died. A hospital spokeswoman said 24-year-old Summer Taylor of Seattle died Saturday evening at Harborview Medical Center. Officials say Taylor and 32-year-old Diaz Love of Portland, Oregon, were hit by the car that barreled through a panicked crowd of protesters on Interstate 5 early Saturday morning. (KGTV) - Viral cellphone video shows how things turned ugly when a Starbucks customer was asked to put on her mask in Santee.On Sunday afternoon, at a Starbucks on North Magnolia, 19-year-old barista Alex Beckom says a female customer in a blue top pulled down her 'Trump 2020' mask to ask a question. Beckom says she asked the customer to put on the mask, which she did, before becoming agitated and took it off again. That's when another customer told ABC 10News he started recording."I'm not gonna listen to anything you say to me, when you talk to me like that," the customer is heard saying."Okay, that's fine, but next time when you come in I'm going to need you to keep your mask on," responds Beckom in the video."I told her that, so if she ever came back, the customer and staff would be protected," says Beckom.Moments later, the customer served up a different motive."And I know it's because you're discriminating against me, because I'm a Trump supporter. F*** Black Lives Matter,' said the customer."If she thinks she’s being discriminated against, that’s on her. I never brought up anything about he politics ... I wasn't even angry. I was just like, "Why is this happening?" said Beckom.The customer became even more upset, when Beckom reminded her to wear her mask if she comes in again."No, it's not a law. SAN MARCOS (KGTV) -- Since CSU San Marcos student Adrianne McWilliams was young, the service was always near and dear to her heart."My dad was active duty for 20 years, so the first few years of my life I moved around a lot. When I was in elementary school, my mom started working for the Marine Corps," McWilliams said.When she found out that those coming home from deployment wouldn't get the staple celebration she remembered as a child, McWilliams wanted to take matters into her own hands."It just kind of made me think about how when I was really young and my dad was deployed, whenever he came back there was always that big homecoming moment," McWilliams told 10News.She created thank you and care packages for those returning home from duty."I'm doing everything I can to make sure that there's at least a little handwritten note on it that says 'welcome home' and 'thank you for your service' so at least they get that little bit of homecoming that they'd get if this were under usual circumstances," McWilliams added.She included basic essentials like toiletries and snacks, something she said they could use since many of them have to self quarantine for two weeks before reuniting with family."Our Marines that are coming home do deserve a special homecoming. Coming home after a long deployment then having to quarantine is not an ideal situation," said McWilliams.McWilliams gathered gifts and donations thanks to friends, family and community members, all from word of mouth and social media. Her first batch was given to 35 returning members."I've always liked giving back but when it's something I'm passionate about and have a personal connection to, the motivation is a little stronger and it's something that hits closer to home," she said.On June 2, 50 packages will be given to another group of returning members. (KGTV) - The City of San Marcos is turning to crowdfunding to make up for budget shortfalls in their 4th of July plans.For the second straight year, the city set up a GoFundMe website to raise money for fireworks. This year's goal is ,500.City officials tell 10News the city already pitches in ,000 to pay for entertainment, security, permits and other costs associated with their annual Fireworks Extravaganza.They also say traditional donations have brought in about ,000 for fireworks. But the fireworks show costs K."I can tell you, it's the best show in North County," says San Marcos Recreations Programs Manager Andrea Gonzalez. "It's a real show-stopper."Last year's GoFundMe brought in more than ,000. Gonzalez says the city still solicits donations from past donors through the mail and phone calls, but those have been down over the last few years. They decided to get creative and make it easier for people to chip in."It's a lot easier to get on your Facebook page and contribute to a GoFundMe with one click than having to write a check," says Gonzalez.Other 4th of July celebrations have done the same thing. The Lake Murray fireworks show raised ,000 last year through GoFundMe. SARASOTA COUNTY, Florida — Sheriff Tom Knight announced the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office is seeking candidates to protect 12 of its elementary schools in the county.The sheriff is looking to hire 14 candidates to fill the newly designed School Resource Deputy II position.“It has been our goal from day one to identify a practical and cost-effective solution for the school district,” said Sheriff Knight. “After ample research and internal review, we put together a program that is not only compliant with the new law, but will stand to benefit the district and its students, while appealing to law enforcement-certified career seekers looking to give back to this community. The School Resource Deputy II Program is really a win-win for everyone.”According to the sheriff's office website, "the position will be responsible for ensuring the safety, security, and welfare of all students, faculty, staff, and visitors in the assigned school.
