Well, now it's happening during the job process, and people who do it may be paying a price they don't realize.In this hot of a job market, people are ghosting each other left and right. Karen Policastro with recruiting firm Robert Half says potential employers are not showing up for interviews, phone calls or work.Former hiring manager Craig Commings says he’s gotten used to new hires not showing up for the job."It was probably one-third of the time they showed up and two-thirds of the time they didn't," Commings says.A recent survey by Robert Half says 28 percent of people backed out of a job offer. They said it was because they received a better offer from another company.Ghosting is happening more to employers during the hiring process. Policastro says it may seem easier to avoid an awkward situation, but honesty is the best policy.Policastro says, at minimum, send an email updating them on your status. Then tell them, "thank you for the offer, but I have to turn it down."Experts suggest leveraging the better job."You never know when they may come back and say, 'I understand that you have a job offer, let’s see if we can up the ante,' " Policastro says.Job seeker Evan Piedrahita has the right idea, too. "If I got a better offer I would probably email them, let them know and give them a chance trying to increase the salary, benefits and see if they can match that," Piedrahita says.But ghosting works both ways. Job seeker Joshua Curry thought he made a good impression during an interview. But the potential employer never called him back."If I follow-up with an email, I usually get a response. But if I'm calling, not really," Curry says. DEL MAR, Calif. (KGTV) - The timeline to reopen Jimmy Durante Boulevard in Del Mar has been pushed back to June 4 at the earliest. At Monday’s City Council meeting, city officials said they planned to meet with San Diego County Fair officials on Tuesday. They will discuss a traffic plan as Jimmy Durante Boulevard is a main artery into the fairgrounds. The fair opens May 31 before the road is expected to reopen. The northbound lanes of Jimmy Durante Boulevard, north of Luzon Avenue, closed in late April following a bluff collapse. Del Mar city leaders were hoping to get it reopened by Memorial Day, but a series of complications pushed the timeline back. The schedule could get further delayed due to weather and the Memorial Day holiday. The cost of cleanup and stabilizing the cliff is expected to cost close to million. The city council voted to declare a local emergency which would allow the city to qualify for federal emergency funds to supplement the cost. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A 66-year-old man accidentally hit his 2-year-old grandson with a truck at a Kearny Mesa condominium complex Wednesday afternoon. According to San Diego Police, the incident happened near Spectrum Center Boulevard and Promenade Park Terrace just after 2 p.m. Police say the man was moving his Dodge pickup truck at the Esplanade at Spectrum Center Apartments being guided by his son. Now, new research says their personalities end up matching, too!Dog owner Michael Wolz says he shares similar personality traits to his 9-year-old golden doodle, Jack. "He's a big, lazy guy. Likes to lay around,” Wolz describes of Jack. “He likes to bounce off the walls when he gets a chance, too. But other than that, he's just trying to take it easy." A new study out by Michigan State University found that it's actually very common for pet owners and their dogs to take on each other’s personalities. Pet owner Annie Ernst feels she and her dog, Harper, are one in the same. "I always want to be in the know about everything and be involved and go up to people and say hi, and she is the same way," Ernst says. Ernst says her and Harper were compatible from the start.
