El Cajon (KGTV)- An El Cajon Family is on the edge after a man tried to break into their home through their toddler’s bedroom. The family lives off Chase Avenue. Liz Jasiak says she noticed a handprint on her son’s bedroom window on Christmas Eve. When she went outside, there was a latex glove sitting behind the trash bins, near the window, in their backyard. “You have this little person who is depending on you to take care of them and their safety,” says Jasiak. “So it's definitely a sense of violation.”Surveillance video shows the man walking up to the home and lingering on the front porch moments after she leaves to take her son to daycare. The video then shows the man leaving but returns and disappears on the other side of the home. “It’s kind of creepy to think that someone was watching my habits or my moves because the moment we left he immediately enters our yard, says Jasiak.”The family says multiple screens to the windows of their home were cut around the same time the suspect tried to break in. The family has reported the crime to the El Cajon Police Department. They say they will be adding extra security to their home. 1156

(KGTV) - A pair of Navy Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps cadets from an El Cajon high school are turning heads for their achievements.It has been 19 years since a student from Grossmont High School was appointed to military service academy and the class of 2018 has two who received multiple appointments.John Flaherty and Nicholas Ghosn earned four appointments in total.Flaherty was nominated to West Point and the United States Merchant Marine Academy while Ghosn earned them to the U.S. Air Force Academy and the U.S. Naval Academy.“I was on top of the world,” said Flaherty describing the moment he got the call he was being appointed, “it was everything I dreamed of since I was four-years-old.”Flaherty is attending West Point and Ghosn will head to Annapolis at the end of their summer.Nicholas Ghosn says it was bittersweet to get the nod from the U.S. Navy.“All I ever wanted was to go to that college and join the ranks of the officer corps in the Navy, but I knew I was going to be away from my family and friends and home,” said Ghosn, “it’s going to be a long time before I get to see them so I was kind of sad because I knew this was it.”The 17-year-olds grew up a mile and a half from each other in Spring Valley and played sports together.“It’s unprecedented,” said Gunnery Master Sgt. (KGTV) — A judge increased bail for the woman accused of hitting a 9-year-old boy with her car and driving away last Thursday. Courtney Webber appeared in court for the very first time since the crash. Webber's bail was increased to 0,000. The 25-year-old is accused of running a red light and hitting the boy, on his bike, as he was crossing the street at the intersection of Sunshine Avenue and West Main Street in El Cajon. The accident happened around 7:30 a.m. The child was on his way to school.RELATED: El Cajon hit-and-run crash suspect found hiding under bedEl Cajon Police used surveillance video near the scene to find Webber. She was located about 12 hours later, hiding under a bed at her mother's Lakeside home. Court documents indicate Webber was on probation for a previous DUI conviction and had a suspended license. The 9-year-old boy hasn't been identified but attorneys tell 10News he is still recovering at a local hospital. For one Colorado city, it’s been huge.At prAna, an activewear business located in Boulder, Colorado, Drew Romano’s biggest concerns are his customers and Mother Nature. Recycling is front and center.“Hey, we're not just throwing your stuff in the landfill; it's actually being recycled,” says Romano about the company.Most of prAna‘s shipping supplies are recyclable. As for the plastics bags that hard to recycle, prAna partnered with a company to make sure they don't end up in the landfill.“We wanted to make sure that we can strive to be as zero waste as possible,” says Ramano.It's part of the city’s Universal Zero Waste Ordinance, which requires businesses to recycle and compost.  Environmental manager Kara Mertz, who works for the City of Boulder, says in just one year, the effort is paying off. The city is now saving more than half of its trash from going to the landfill.Mertz says they used this video to show residents how to recycle. Then, they made it easy for residents to do it, by placing bins with clear and identical signage across the city.“I think making it easy and accessible to everyone is really the key,” says Mertz.Mertz says it's something we can all do, no matter where we live.“We do believe that over time people will get more and more used to it,” Mertz says. “It'll become second nature, and then all of that material, once it's sorted properly, can be put in the correct bins.” 1520
