SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The victim of a hit-and-run crash in South Park is calling for the City of San Diego to make streets safer. “It's been really difficult not being able to walk for seven weeks and having to be able to walk again, dealing with the side effects of the concussion and getting my brain working right,” said Vicki Granowitz. Surveillance video recorded one year ago shows Granowitz at the crosswalk of Grape and Fern streets. Before she can safely cross, a car hits her. Witnesses rushed to help as the car took off. Police later tracked down the driver, who pleaded guilty to the crash. RELATED: Study finds most dangerous intersections for pedestrians in San Diego Two stop signs have been erected at the intersection but Granowitz wants more improvements. Tuesday morning, Granowitz teamed up with Circulate San Diego for a news conference. The group wants the city to expand safety efforts under Vision Zero, Mayor Faulconer’s initiative to make the streets and sidewalks safer, and reduce traffic-related deaths and severe injuries to zero by 2025. 10News received a statement from the mayor’s office saying they are making investments for traffic projects. RELATED: Report looks at most dangerous North County intersections for pedestrians “In fiscal year 2020 alone, million was allocated to Vision Zero, including more than .8 million for bicycle facilities, .4 million for the installation of new sidewalks, .8 million for new traffic signals and .6 million for median installations,” according to Senior Public Information Officer Nicole Darling. 1590

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The Rock Church is making holiday giving even easier, teaming up with Express Feedback for Good to raise money for their Toys for Joy campaign.Under the new program, people can sign up to take on-line surveys. For each one they take, the Church will get towards their holiday fundraiser."This is a life or death situation for some kids and some families," says Pastor Miles McPherson. The Toys for Joy program is now in its 23rd year. Each year the Church helps around 20,000 families with food, clothing, toys, and more for the holidays. McPherson says he hopes the new survey tool will inspire people to do more."The express feedback tool gives people the opportunity to do something to help somebody, but we want them to take the next step, touch a person, smile at a person, hear someone's story," he says. The surveys only take about one minute each, and there's a limit of 100 per person. The Church says they hope to raise 0,000 from the surveys, to help supplement the other donations they get each year. The company, Express Feedback for Good, takes the information from the survey and sells it to businesses to help them serve their customers better."It's a win/win for both parties," says Product Manager Dena Coykendall. "The non-profit can create resources, and business can collect information from a crowd that's more representative."This year, the Rock Church will have four locations for their Toys for Joy campaign on December 14th. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The race for California's 50th Congressional District is zeroing in on two candidates following Super Tuesday.Former City Councilmember Carl DeMaio conceded Tuesday, leaving the path clear for the March Primary's top two vote-getters Democrat Ammar Campa-Najjar and Former Republican Rep. Darrell Issa."While I am disappointed, I am filled with two other emotions: gratitude for supporters like you and pride in the incredible campaign we ran," DeMaio's statement read. "In the coming days I will share more details of how we will deploy our political operation as we pivot to the November election and hope you will be willing to continue to be involved in the fight."Campa-Najjar topped the nine-candidate field with 36 percent of the vote, followed by Issa with 23 percent, DeMaio with 20 percent, and Sen. Brian Jones with 11 percent. The traditionally conservative 50th Congressional District once led by Rep. Duncan Hunter was left vacant following Hunter's guilty plea to misusing 0,000 in campaign funds and resignation in January. In a statement, Issa thanked DeMaio and Jones on hard-fought campaigns.“Carl DeMaio and Brian Jones both worked hard in this campaign to present voters with their vision for the future of our country. They deserve credit for a hard-fought campaign, and I appreciate that they’ve both expressed their commitment to uniting to make sure the 50th District continues to be represented by a Republican," Issa said in a statement. 1493
