British Prime Minister Theresa May paid a successful visit to China earlier this year, Xi said, noting that bilateral cooperation in various areas maintains a sound momentum of development.

"I wish to extend, on behalf of the Chinese government and people and in my own name, a very warm welcome to all of you, particularly the state leaders and heads of international organizations who have come to attend the meeting of the Council of Heads of Member States of the SCO," he said.

The programme focuses on key areas, including sexual and reproductive health, adolescents and youth, gender equality and women's empowerment, and population dynamics in China.

During the meeting, which marked the resumption of the trilateral leaders' meeting mechanism after a two-and-a-half-year hiatus, the three sides agreed to meet on a regular basis to expand their common interests and manage disputes.

Russian President Vladmir Putin said combating terrorism is one of the priorities of the SCO, and the organization should take further measures to promote regional stability.
