SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 38-year-old man was stabbed Wednesday morning after confronting a man he saw attempting to break into cars in a Rancho Bernardo parking lot, police said.It happened shortly before 2:10 a.m. near the intersection of Fairlie Road and Bernardo Center Drive, San Diego police Officer Robert Heims said. The 38-year-old man saw a man trying door handles of cars in a parking lot in the area and confronted him, Heims said. They got into an argument before the suspect ran away and the victim chased him, the officer said. The victim caught up to the man and they got into a fight, during which the victim was stabbed at least once, Heims said, adding that the man was taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. After the fight, the assailant was last seen running southbound on Bernardo Center Drive. The suspect was described as a 5-foot-10 white man who weighs between 140 and 160 pounds. SAN DIEGO — Three teenagers were taken into custody in three separate attempts to smuggle fentanyl across the U.S.-Mexico border, according to federal officials.U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said the incidents occurred on March 30 and 31 at the San Ysidro Port of Entry near San Diego, California. On Friday, CBP agents stopped a 17-year-old Mexican citizen. After noticing an "anomaly" on the teen's back, agents conducted a pat down and found two packages strapped to his back. The packages contained four pounds of fentanyl — a street value of 1,000.The next day, CBP agents stopped two more male teens within 10 minutes of each other: a 17-year-old and a 15-year-old. Both were found to have packages of fentanyl strapped to their backs. The two combined were carrying about nine pounds of drugs, a street value of more than 6,000.The teens in each case were arrested and turned over to Homeland Security Investigations. The all drugs were seized by CBP officers.According to Pete Flores, the director of Field Operations for Customs and Border Protection in San Diego, Fentanyl is 50 to 100 times more deadly than heroin."Please understand that no matter what you may be told, there are consequences for engaging in this type of activity, not to mention the dangers of working with transnational criminal organizations,” he said, 1383

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 53-year-old woman caught in the crossfire of an argument between two men in the Mountain View neighborhood of San Diego suffered a non-life threatening gunshot wound, police said Saturday morning. The men were arguing at 37th Street and Ocean View Boulevard about 11:40 p.m. Friday, according to Officer Robert Heims of the San Diego Police Department. The victim was sitting in a vehicle that was between the two men as they argued. During the argument one of the men pulled a gun and shot at the other man, but struck the women in her left hip, Heims said. The woman drove away and police found her about a block away. She was taken to a hospital for treatment of her gunshot wound, he said.No other injuries were reported.A detailed description of the shooter was not immediately available. 818

SAN DIEGO — San Diego's mom-and-pop businesses and government agencies alike are awaiting their share of the 0 billion dollar stimulus package. The package provides forgivable loans for small businesses, boosts unemployment checks by 0 per week, and infuses billions into rental assistance, vaccine distribution, education, and child care.Michel Malecot is readying to apply for a new forgivable Paycheck Protection Program loan, from the new package. He got about 2,000 in the first round in March to help The French Gourmet and catering operation stay afloat. Now, his Pacific Beach bakery restaurant is having to deal with another shutdown order that disallows outdoor dining."I'm super happy because we really needed it," he said. "I don’t think people realize that the caterers and the restaurants that have been closed, they still have to make payroll if they want to be around for the future. We need to continue to maintain good people.”A county spokesman said Monday that officials were still trying to determine how much would be coming San Diego’s way.Attorney Kelly DuFord Williams, managing partner of Slate Law Group, said, however, that the cash won't all come at once.“If California is working directly with the federal government to receive the funds, my guess is it's going to be a lot faster for those agencies to get that funding,” she said. “The PPP loan will be distributed directly from the federal government to people across the nation via their bank accounts, and it’s going to depend on who is prepared and who is not, and whose application gets processed first and whose doesn’t.”The region remains plagued by high unemployment. The state recently reported about 100,000 San Diegans are out of a job - numbers that predate the latest shutdown order. 1793

SALEM, Ore. — As protesters around the country call for police reform following the death of Geroge Floyd, Oregon has released a list of more than 1,000 police officers who have been banned from working in law enforcement in the state. The document, created by Oregon's Department of Public Safety Standards and Training, lists over 1,700 people whose transgressions over the past 50 years were so serious that they were banned from working in law enforcement in the state. The list was published last week after the state Legislature passed a law requiring the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training to create such a database.According to The Associated Press, at least one officer was hired in another state after he was decertified in Oregon. According to the AP, former Coquille, Oregon, police officer Sean Sullivan was banned from policing in Oregon following a 2005 conviction for kissing a 10-year-old girl. He briefly took a job as a police chief in a Kansas town before he resigned amid an investigation.Civil rights groups believe more states need to publish such databases to prevent police officers from being hired elsewhere following decertification. Other states are moving in the same direction, but the United States lacks an official national database.A non-profit created one and said more work is needed. 1343
