BEIJING, June 28 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao has called for more confidence in the country's stable economic growth and gaining more strength to better people's livelihood.     He made the calls during an inspection tour in northeastern China's Heilongjiang Province from June 26 to 28, one of the country's old industrial bases and important granaries.     Hu encouraged people in Heilongjiang to seize the opportunity as China moved to revitalize its old industrial bases, to overcome the difficulties and maintain a steady economic growth and ensure people's livelihood. He encouraged farmers to increase grain production and boost agricultural modernization, so as to ensure the country's grain security.     More supportive policies for farmers are on the way, he said, hoping that farmers could increase their incomes with improved policies and technologies.     Hu also visited an oil field, a military camp, a school for intellectually challenged children, a human resources market, and a residential community which houses people who formerly lived in shanties.

BEIJING, July 4 (Xinhua) -- China did not lose its advantages in foreign trade despite global downturn and could retain foreign trade level above the global average once global economy recovered, a senior Chinese official said Saturday.     Yi Xiaozhun, vice commerce minister, was speaking at the Global Think Tank Summit that ended Saturday in Beijing.     Though China's foreign trade would not rise sharply as it did in the past few years, the country did not lose its foreign trade advantages thanks to policies to stimulate domestic demands, Yi said.     He said China had been diversifying foreign trade and reported increased trade with countries in Africa, Middle East, middle Asia and Latin America.     Yi also called for halt on protectionism, saying that protectionism had been picking up and about 40 percent of anti-dumping cases and 70 percent of anti-subsidy cases targeted China.     He called for pushing forward the Doha round negotiation, which he believed was key in fighting against protectionism.

MOSCOW, May 10 (Xinhua) -- The construction of the China-Russia oil pipeline conforms with the strategic goals of China and Russia to diversify the former's energy imports and latter's energy exports, Chinese Ambassador to Russia Liu Guchang has said.     The move reflects the two countries' confidence and determination to tide over together the current global economic downturn, Liu said in a recent written interview with Xinhua on Sunday.     The signing of a package of oil cooperation deals between China and Russia as well as the start of the oil pipeline project marked a major breakthrough in their energy cooperation, represented a new height of China-Russia strategic partnership of cooperation and further substantiate this partnership, Liu said.     Trade of crude via the pipeline will help stabilize and enhance the growth in bilateral trade, the diplomat added.     Under the agreement reached between both countries, China and Russia will jointly build and operate the pipeline from Russia's Siberian city of Skovorodino to China's northeastern city of Daqing as its terminal via China's border city of Mohe.     The construction of the Russian part of the pipeline started on April 27, and the Chinese part will be launched in mid-May. The pipeline, with an annual capacity of 15 million tons of crude to China within 20 years, is expected to go into operation in October2010.     The two sides will study the feasibility of increasing its delivery capacity after the pipeline is put into production, Liu said. The project will ensure stable and secure oil supplies to China, open a stable and sound market for Russian oil, and boost the cooperation between enterprises of the two countries in oil exploration and refining, Liu said.     Such a cooperation mode may well serve as a good example for the two sides to further broaden and deepen their all-round, long-term and stable energy cooperation in natural gas, nuclear energy and electric power, Liu said

YEKATERINBURG, Russia, June 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao Tuesday presented a four-point proposal for dealing with the ongoing global financial crisis at the first summit meeting of BRIC countries which groups Brazil, Russia, India and China.     First, BRIC countries should commit themselves to bringing about an early recovery of the world economy, Hu said. "We should work hard to overcome the difficulties and try to take the lead in recovering from the global financial crisis," he said, adding "This is not only for our own need, but also contributes to world economic recovery." He also called for greater food assistance and closer agricultural and food cooperation.     "We should also accelerate our efforts in developing clean and renewable energy, and establish advanced research and promotion systems in a bid to diversity our energy supply," Hu said.     He urged the four countries to strengthen information exchanges and communication, share the experience on epidemics preventions and control, and work together to develop and share vaccines, and cooperate in pandemic control and prevention.

He urged the two sides to take effective measures to put bilateral trade and investment back on the track of stable growth as soon as possible.
