Karen Bass: A member of the House of Representatives representing California, Bass is an experienced legislator and African-American leader. Being from California, however, doesn't help with swing states.Keisha Lance Bottoms: Mayor of Atlanta and an African-American leader, Bottoms, however, has limited national experience. Val Demings: A member of Congress from the crucial state of Florida, Demings is a prominent member of the Congressional Black Caucus who gained exposure during the impeachment of President Donald Trump. Some attack her time as a police chief, however. Tammy Duckworth: A United States senator representing Illinois, Duckworth is also a veteran. Some wonder if she is well-known enough. Michelle Lujan Grisham: As governor of New Mexico and a former Member of Congress, Grisham has the experience and is one of the nation's top Latinas. Critics point to the fact few know her outside of New Mexico. Kamala Harris: A United States senator and African-American leader, Harris is well-known as a former presidential candidate. Some Biden advisers don't like how she attacked Biden during the campaign, not to mention her time as a prosecutor could hurt her with some voters. Susan Rice: An African-American woman who served as former National Security Adviser under President Obama, Rice has qualifications but has never held elected office. Gretchen Whitmer: Whitmer leads the swing state of Michigan as governor but some question whether Biden should pick an African-American to serve as his number two. Mack Beggs defended his Texas wrestling state title on Saturday by winning the girls Class 6A 110-pound class, to the chagrin of some of those in attendance in Cypress, Texas, the Dallas Morning News reported. Beggs, who was born female, is a transgender male who is only allowed to wrestle against girls. Texas' University Interscholastic League requires that athletes compete in the gender listed on their birth certificate. Beggs told the Dallas Morning News that he has not gone through any gender reassignment surgeries. But that did not stop those in the crowd from heckling Beggs. "They're saying 'steroids.' They're saying, 'Oh, they're beating up on girls,'" he told the Morning News. "It just comes down to technique and who has the most heart. I put too much blood, sweat and tears, I put too much B.S. into this journey that I wanted to come out on top."If Beggs had his choice, he would be competing against boys. "What can I tell people? I can tell the state legislature to change the policy, but I can't tell them to change it right now," Beggs told reporters. "All I can hope for is that they come to their [senses] and realize this is stupid and we should change the policies to conform to other people in my position."Among those who believe it was not a fair bout was Beggs' semifinal opponent Kayla Fitts, who went 52-0 as a senior for Cypress Ranch High School. "The strength definitely was the difference. I didn't anticipate how strong he was," Fitts told the Morning News."I understand if you want to transition your gender," she added. "I understand that totally. But there's a time and a place."Part of the issue has been that Beggs is taking a low dose of testosterone. Max Booth is from Redondo Beach and was excited to go to Maine for a summer camp for the second year. This year, that didn’t happen because of coronavirus, leaving Max at home. Then, his grandparents stepped in to save the day.Tim and Joy Booth live in Pacific Beach and said right around when Max found out he would be staying home for the summer, beaches and public places in their area started opening up, so they took advantage and planned a substitute summer camp for the 10-year-old.“It gave us real happiness to figure out how to make something that was at least a little bit similar to what he might have had,” said Joy.The trio spent the last week exploring the San Diego area, completing a long list of activities like cutting wood and barbecuing at a park, going to the beach, playing at a water park, practicing archery, hiking and observing nature, completing a junior park ranger program at the Cabrillo Monument and more. They even took the time to give back to the community, spending a day shoveling sand off of steps in Pacific Beach. They said a police officer and surfer stopped to thank them, the surfer adding that he had slipped on those steps because of the built-up sand.“We swept the stairs because we wanted to help people not get any injuries from slipping on the sand,” said Max.The week may have been different than a typical summer camp, but all three said they had the best time."I would just like to say thank you for being my parents and thank you for doing all this stuff for me," said Max."You’re welcome, Max. Members of the Ottawa Senators were caught on camera slamming one of their coaches while they were in the Phoenix area to face the Arizona Coyotes last week, the Ottawa Sun reported Monday.During the video, Senators players made derogatory comments about an assistant coach during an Uber ride in the Valley. The conversation was being recorded, presumably by the Uber driver and without the knowledge of any of the players.Forward Matt Duchene, defenseman Chris Wideman, center Chris Tierney, defenseman Thomas Chabot, defenseman Dylan DeMelo, forward Colin White and forward Alex Formenton were in the vehicle during the conversation in question. The video lasts a total of five minutes.During the video, the players made comments about Senators assistant coach Martin Raymond, questioning the effectiveness of his coaching and his meetings to discuss strategy. “Do you notice that when he runs the video, if you actually do pay attention, he doesn’t ever teach you anything? He just commentates what’s happening," Wideman said.“Here’s the other thing, too. We don’t change anything, ever. So why do we even have a meeting? I haven’t paid attention in three weeks," Duchene said.In response to the video, the players seen in the video issued the following statement Monday night:"We want to apologize publicly to Marty Raymond, our teammates and coaches for our comments in Phoenix, Arizona on October 29. Our private conversation was recorded without our knowledge or consent. We're passionate about our team, and focusing on growing together.
