DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — The United Arab Emirates has announced a major liberalization of the country’s Islamic personal laws, allowing unmarried couples to cohabitate, loosening alcohol restrictions and criminalizing so-called “honor killings.” The broadening of personal freedoms reflects the changing profile of a country that has sought to bill itself as a skyscraper-studded destination for Western tourists, fortune-seekers and businesses despite its legal system based on a hard-line interpretation of Islamic law. Saturday's announcement also follows a historic U.S.-brokered deal to normalize relations between the UAE and Israel, which is expected to bring an influx of Israeli tourists and investment. The moves come as the UAE gets ready to host the high-stakes World Expo. 803

During a press conference on Wednesday, Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden said that he believes the police officers who shot Jacob Blake and Breonna Taylor should be charged with crimes.Biden said that the cases should be handled within the judicial system, but said that the officers in the cases should face charges "at a minimum."Biden added that the person who shot a Trump supporter during a weekend confrontation in Portland, Oregon should also face charges. When asked by reporters how Biden would keep Americans safe in times of civil unrest, Biden said he wouldn't "incite violence" and would condemn it when occurred. He accused Trump of acting "irresponsibly" by not condemning violence amid protests."Protesting is a right and free speech is a right. But to engage in violence: Burning, looting, unrest in the name of protesting is wrong and people should be held accountable," Biden said.Biden added that he "didn't hear much" from Trump in regard to the shooting of Jacob Blake.Biden is scheduled to visit Kenosha tomorrow, where he says he will "meet with community leaders." Biden's visit will come two days after Trump visited the city — a visit that largely consisted of viewing damage caused by riots and meeting with law enforcement officials. Biden's comments came a day after Taylor's boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, filed a .5 million lawsuit against the Louisville Metro Police Department in connection with the fatal shooting that stemmed from a "no-knock warrant." 1503

Do you want to hit the road for a weekend trip or summer vacation? As states begin opening up, many are planning an escape. But there are some things you should you know before you make the trek.Vacations were canceled, trips delayed, destinations rescheduled amid the spread of the coronavirus pandemic. As America starts to think about traveling again, AAA wants to help you plan ahead.AAA spokeswoman Jeanette Casselano said, “We always do our research before we hit the road but now people are asking lots of questions about what’s open, what can I do, what activities are free to me when I go to a certain place.”Now, there's a new tool to help you while on the go. Trip Tik is an interactive road map, and it gives you everything you need to know before you leave home."Dining solutions or dining restrictions in place, face covers if they’re required, national lands or parks are open,” Casselano said.Trip Tik provides updated information for all 50 states. In certain areas of New Mexico, for instance, only tribal members are allowed. In South Dakota, you'll have to fill out a health questionnaire. Upon entering Florida, you'll have to fill out a traveler form. All things you need to know."That’s important information to take into account when you’re traveling,” Casselano said. “COVID has hit every part of the country and you need to understand what’s happening in that locality that you’re traveling to make the best decision.”The map points out hot spots, and number of cases by state and county. So you can make an informed decision about where you're going and where you'll be staying. The interactive map has gotten a lot of web traffic as people start feeling comfortable leaving home. And as you start planning - there's some things you should think about and discuss with your family:-Know where the rest stops are, whether they're open, and whether you'll be comfortable stopping.-Figure out whether restaurants are open, and pack extra food in case of closures.-You'll want an emergency roadside kit.-You'll need a mask, gloves, disinfectant, cleaning supplies for yourself, your family and your car.AAA also recommends making sure your car is in good shape. They've been fielding a lot of dead battery calls from cars that haven't moved during lockdown.“We had a lot of people who weren’t traveling, everyone working from home,” Casselano said. “You have to take care of your cars when that happens so we provided a lot of information and tips to keep your car and battery healthy.”Check on your car, and check your own health before you leave your hometown. 2592

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Saudi Arabia says this year's hajj will not be canceled, but that due to the coronavirus only "very limited numbers" of people will be allowed to perform the major Muslim pilgrimage. The kingdom said Tuesday that only people of various nationalities already residing in the country would be allowed to perform the hajj. The government did not specify how many people would be permitted to take part. The annual pilgrimage, which is set to begin this year at the end of July, traditionally draws around 2 million Muslims from around the world for five intense days of worship and rituals in Mecca. 639
