SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A woman is dead after being hit by a car in Mid-City Monday night. The crash happened around 6 p.m. on the 4600 block of El Cajon Boulevard. San Diego Police say the woman, who is in her 60s, was pinned beneath the car before an ambulance arrived. She was later pronounced dead. Police say employees at a nearby auto body shop ran over, using a jack to lift the car off the woman. The driver is cooperating, police say. 448

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - An argument between two women turned violent when one stabbed the other with a box cutter Saturday afternoon in Mt. Hope, San Diego Police said.A 27-year-old woman was taken to the hospital, along with her 16-year-old brother. Her brother was also stabbed when he tried to intervene in the fight and defend his sister. Both are expected to recover from their injuries, police said.The suspect left the area, near 41st Street and Hilltop Drive, driving a white Toyota Solara with a tan roof, according to witnesses. She is described as 38 years old with a heavy build and an afro. Police are looking for the suspect, who goes by Bunny.Anyone with information is asked to contact the San Diego Police. 726

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — An 86-year-old woman, with underlying health conditions and who had been vaccinated, is the latest flu death in San Diego.The San Diego woman died on Dec. 1 from influenza A and had been vaccinated this season, the County Health and Human Agency said. Officials did not specify what underlying conditions the woman had suffered.This flu season, seven San Diegans have died from the flu. At this time last year, San Diego reported five deaths from the flu.RELATED: Health officials stress getting vaccinated for the flu ASAP“Influenza can be deadly, especially for people with underlying medical conditions and compromised immune systems,” said Wilma Wooten, county public health officer. “Vaccination is the best protection against influenza. The vaccine is safe and effective.”County health officials say residents should still receive a flu vaccine.Last week, 294 flu cases were reported in the region, compared to 202 the previous week. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego Midwife is living her dream of opening her own birth center, helping minority women.We met Nikki Helms in July when her GoFundMe was off the charts, raising more than 1,000.She had been a licensed midwife for about a year and wanted to open a birth center. Fast forward to December and her dream is coming true."We've got signage and I stood at the foot of my stairs and cried about that," Helms said filled with gratitude. The community has continued to wrap their arms around her mission."It's really just been amazing and overwhelming, and I feel so blessed," she said wiping a tear from the corner of her eye. "And so grateful and I get teared up every time I start talking about it because it gives me the opportunity to go care for families and you know it just blows my mind."Since July she's raised another ,000 and packages keep arriving on her doorstep with items for the birth center.Her mission is to support women through childbirth and beyond.
