Trade war fears and a presidential attack on Amazon are rocking Wall Street. The Dow dropped more than 700 points on Monday, and the Nasdaq plunged 3%. The S&P 500 hit its low for the year and was on track for its lowest close since November. The sell-off left all three major indexes in the red for 2018.By the end of the day Monday, the Dow slightly recovered, closing down 458 points for the day.The sell-off on the first day of the second quarter came after President Trump once again attacked Amazon on Twitter. Amazon, one of the biggest drivers of the 2017 market rally, tumbled 5%, wiping out more than billion of its market value.Trump once again accused Amazon of taking advantage of the US Postal Service, and he suggested that Amazon does not pay its fair share of tax.In fact, Amazon pays the same lower rate that the post office charges other bulk shippers, and it collects sales tax in every state that charges it. Amazon does not collect sales tax on purchases made from third-party vendors."You've got the president of the United States attacking a single company over what he considers to be unfair practices," said Ian Winer, head of equities at Wedbush Securities.Amazon wasn't the only tech stock in trouble. Tesla, Netflix and Cisco all dropped by at least 4%. Intel plunged 8% on a?Bloomberg News report that Apple plans to switch to its own chips. Almost every stock in the Nasdaq 100 lost ground. The Nasdaq has plunged more than 10% from its all-time high on March 12."When investors see market leaders suddenly stumble, they become more cautious about the entire group," said Kate Warne, investment strategist at Edward Jones.Wall Street is also fretting about rising trade tensions, especially with China. Beijing responded to Trump's steel and aluminum tariffs on Monday by following through on its threat to impose tariffs on billion of US imports. The tariffs apply to 128 products, ranging from pork and meat to steel pipes.Trump plans to place additional tariffs on about billion worth of Chinese goods — and Beijing has promised to respond.John Toohey, head of equities at USAA, blamed the sell-off on concerns about the China tariffs. "Global trade could slow down, global supply chains could be impacted, and CEOs could be more cautious on capital spending," Toohey said.NAFTA worries are also on the rise after Trump took aim at the trade deal between the United States, Canada and Mexico. Trump on Sunday linked NAFTA to his efforts to build a wall along the border with Mexico."They must stop the big drug and people flows, or I will stop their cash cow, NAFTA. NEED WALL!" Trump tweeted."It's a cause for concern. That mixing of issues is contributing to uncertainty," said Kristina Hooper, chief global market strategist at Invesco. No matter the cause, signs of fear abounded. The VIX volatility index jumped more than 15%. CNNMoney's Fear & Greed Index of market sentiment dropped further into "extreme fear." Crude oil plunged about 3%. Gold, which tends to do well when investors are worried, climbed more than 1%."None of it makes a lot of sense," said Michael Block, chief strategist at Rhino Trading Partners. "I don't know what we learned that was new. Chinese tariffs are not surprising."After spiking last year, the stock market hit extreme turbulence during the first three months of the year as investors worried about tariffs, inflation and tech stocks. The Dow snapped its longest quarterly winning streak in 20 years.Stocks may be volatile, but the backdrop looks bright. Global economic growth is expected to accelerate and corporate profits are likely to surge, thanks in part to Trump's corporate tax cuts."It's unlikely to be the end of the bull market," Warne said. "The underlying fundamentals remain positive." 3823

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin says the Trump administration remains willing to work on a bipartisan agreement to help small businesses, the unemployed, children and schools afftected by the coronavirus outbreak. Mnuchin at a hearing Tuesday accused Democratic leaders of holding up an agreement with hard-line positions. Democrats insist that dire economic conditions persist and say a larger relief package is needed. "I believe a bipartisan agreement still should be reached and would provide substantial funds for schools, testing, vaccines, PPP for small businesses, continued enhanced unemployment benefits, child care, nutrition, agriculture, and the US Postal Service, along with liability protection for universities, schools and business," Mnuchin said. The sides had largely agreed on providing many Americans with a second stimulus check of ,200 before talks broke down in early August. Outside of the direct payments, the sides disagreed on a number of issues. Mnuchin and top congressional Democrats have been in a monthslong stalemate over new relief legislation, with the two sides trillions of dollars apart. Lawmakers left Washington for the August recess without an agreement. At the end of July, a 0 per week unemployment supplement expired. Also funding from the Paycheck Protection Program has long been depleted. The program was implemented to help employers make payroll during the pandemic. The two sides are at odds over how much of unemployment should be supplemented by the federal government. There is also a debate on offering businesses liability protection from coronavirus-related lawsuits. 1638

Times Square was a hive of activity Tuesday afternoon, as more than 40,000 bees swarmed a hot dog stand at the corner of Broadway and West 43rd Street.Known as an absconded hive, the bees were looking for a new home to escape the sweltering heat, said Officer Darren Mays, one of the New York Police Department's two official beekeepers."The hive got overcrowded because it was hot and humid and they just needed a new place to go so they can keep cool," Mays said. He also runs the official NYPD Bees Twitter account, which was buzzing with likes and retweets as many New Yorkers learned that their police force had beekeepers on staff.Mays said the bees likely went looking for a new home after leaving one of the rooftop hives of a nearby building.Second-beekeeper-in-command, Officer Michael Lauriano, responded to the scene in full protective gear, including a netted bee helmet. It took Lauriano 45 minutes to carefully vacuum the bees. The street was cordoned off and no injuries were reported, according to the NYPD.Mays confirmed the bees have been safely stored in a hive box and are being transported by police van to an apiary on Long Island."Unfortunately, they won't be able to make any honey this season," said Mays, explaining that they will have to be well fed to make it through the winter.Mays, who has served since 2014 as the NYPD's beekeeper in addition to his regular duties, said this has been one of the slowest bee seasons in recent years. He has had to make similar "scoops" in the past.Hives of this scale have been buzzing around Manhattan for some time, said Detective Hubert Reyes, public Information officer for the NYPD. "That's why we have a beekeeper. You gotta be ready for everything right?" 1736

Thick gray clouds of smoke cover the California sky as massive redwood trees, some of the oldest trees on earth, burn at California’s oldest state park: Big Basin Redwoods State Park. For many people living on California’s Central Coast, these redwoods impact much more than just nearby ecology. They’re a lifeline to the local economy.“That’s crazy because, I mean, it’s our history,” said Pedro Bonilla, owner of El Buen Taco.Bonilla says these trees attract tourists and with Big Basin park closed for at least a year due to fire damage, his taco truck could have to close.“We weren’t prepared mentally or financially prepared for this,” he said.Thousands of acres have burned at Big Basin since fires sparked a few weeks ago, torching everything from the ancient trees to historic structures that were built in the early 1900s.“It’s hard to grasp you know how much damage the fire did to the infrastructure, said Mark McKenna of California State Parks. While McKenna says redwood trees are resilient, their recovery could take years.“The complexity of the rebuilding process, it's daunting when you see the damage that happened up there,” he said. That damage is both extensive and expensive. And though the total cost has not been tallied, people there say you can’t put a price tag on the park.“It’s like losing a loved one,” Bonilla said. While locals can’t replace the history that was lost during these wildfires, they’re still somehow optimistic about the future.“Just when it looked like the darkest time possible for the San Lorenzo Valley, we’re still standing here,” said local radio DJ, Sam Peacock. They're standing tall after flames burned the trees to the ground, because eventually, new life will sprout up even after this disaster.“It just shows that don’t underestimate Mother Nature,” Bonilla said. 1823

There's a new way to turn your iPhone into a body cam to record your interaction with police when you get pulled over. It's possible through a new feature with Apple's latest iOS 12. The newest iOS allows you to download an app called Shortcuts.Shortcuts allows users to build their own intricate demands for Siri that may involve using multiple apps instead of just one.Once you go through all the steps to make sure the shortcut works, you should be able to say "Hey Siri, I'm getting pulled over.""If people want to add more and more technology to their lives, the police have nothing to fear about this," said 13 Action News Crime and Safety Expert Retired Metro Lieutenant Randy Sutton. The shortcut will also text your video and location information to someone you choose to be your emergency contact. The creator admits the vast majority of the time this shortcut won't even be necessary. 900
