It’s week one of pro football, during the second game of a doubleheader Monday night and fans are packed in at Society Sports and Spirits in Denver.Despite the hometown team being three point underdogs, many people hope they just cover the spread.“What we’ve known for a long time is Americans like to bet on sport,” said Casey Clark of the American Gaming Association.Clark says more than 33 million Americans will bet on professional football this year. After a recent Supreme Court ruling, gambling on games will be a lot easier.Sports betting is now legal in 18 states plus Washington, D.C.Clark says four other states have passed bills legalizing sports betting and he expects more to follow suit for financial reasons.“About 1 million has been generated in tax revenue across those states in that short amount of time,” he said. “So, you’ve seen significant uptick in opportunity for states and counties and local jurisdiction.”One state that’s seeing immediate pay off after legalizing sports betting in May, is Colorado.“Colorado has a 10 percent tax on the wins,” said Dan Hartman, director of the Colorado Division of Gaming. Italian authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of death of 26 teenage girls whose bodies were recovered in the Mediterranean Sea on Sunday.The girls, aged 14-18, are believed to have been migrants from Niger and Nigeria who had embarked on the treacherous route to Europe from Libya over the weekend.Lorena Ciccotti, Salerno's head of police, told CNN that autopsies would be carried out on Tuesday and that coroners would be investigating whether the girls had been tortured or sexually abused.Their bodies were found close to a flimsy rubber dinghy that had all but sunk when rescuers arrived, Ciccotti said. Aid workers had described a grim scene: survivors hanging onto the remains of the vessel as the girls' bodies floated nearby.Their rescue was one of four separate rescue operations carried out in the Mediterranean over the weekend. In total, 400 people were brought aboard the Spanish vessel Cantabria before disembarking at the Italian port town of Salerno.Among them were 90 women and 52 minors, including a week-old-baby, authorities said.Libya is a well-known jumping-off point for migrants seeking refuge on European shores. In late September, after racist slurs were found on the message boards of five black cadet candidates at the Air Force Academy Preparatory School, the school's superintendent was angry.Lt. Gen. Jay Silveria told cadets to line up and pull out their phones to remember his message, and he forcefully denounced racism and intolerance."If you're outraged by those words, then you're in the right place. That kind of behavior has no place at the Prep School," Silveria said.The speech was posted on Air Force Academy's Facebook page and quickly went viral. The Air Force launched an internal investigation to find the culprit.But on Tuesday, Air Force Academy officials said that one of the black cadet candidates actually wrote the racist messages."We can confirm that one of the cadet candidates who was allegedly targeted by racist remarks written outside their dorm room was actually responsible for the act," the Academy said in a written statement. "The individual admitted responsibility and this was validated by the investigation."The vandalism was written in black marker on a dorm whiteboard with the phrase "go home (expletive)."Lt. Col. Allen Herritage, director of public affairs with the Academy, said that the cadet responsible admitted his guilt when confronted. The individual has "received administrative punishment" and is no longer at the preparatory school, Herritage said.The four other students that were the target of the vandalism are still at the Prep School, which is on the same campus in Colorado Springs, Colorado, as the Air Force Academy. And if you can't treat someone from another race or different color skin with dignity and respect, then you need to get out.""This is our institution, and no one can take away our values," Silveria added. "No one can write on a board and question our values.
