But while there are some animals on Lapidow’s farm, he’s a very different kind of farmer.Late last year, this 62-year-old farmer gave up his multimillion-dollar New York City law firm, to begin a start-up CBD farm. Things grew almost as quickly as the cannabidiol plants that surround his property.“At the end of 2019, we had a solid year. We had a solid year,” said Lapidow, while looking out toward the apple orchards that surround his property.But when COVID-19 struck, the farm had to shut down for two months. There was no harvesting and no retail sales. Even months after the shutdown, there are still streams of revenue for this farm that have disappeared completely.“People stopped paying their bills. I don’t know what the murder rate of my customers is. I don’t know how many are gone for good,” Lapidow said.After initially laying off all his employees, he has been able to rehire most of them. Sales are still down year-to-year, but COVID is giving some in the industry an unexpected boost.Researchers at Augusta University in Georgia have found new evidence that cannabis-derived CBD may help those suffering from severe lung inflammation that occurs in more serious cases of COVID-19.Legally, because it's not FDA approved, Lapidow can't make claims about what his products do. NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Orlando Ortega posted a Facebook video of his now-former co-worker, Eileen Marcinkowski, calling him the N-word Sunday. The video has more than 150,000 views.But the owner of the restaurant where the incident took place said the video doesn't tell the whole story. “The lady in the video he actually did hit. She had blood on her face, she was bleeding," said Jane Thursfield, owner of Cactus Jack. Thursfield said Ortega provoked the fight when he punched Marcinkowski in the face after he was let go by the restaurant. Scripps station WFTX in Fort Myers could see no evidence of blood on Marcinkowski's face in the Facebook video. The owner said even if Marcinkowski was provoked, the racial comments were not OK. “No, no, of course not," Thursfield said. "No, we don’t condone that at all.”Other customers, like Johnny Samz, who said he regularly eats at Cactus Jack, agreed. “I don’t think it’s ever good, for anybody to use the N-word," said Samz. "I don’t care what the circumstances are.” WFTX's Jasmine Minor asked since Ortego no longer worked at the restaurant, if Marcinkowski would face the same fate. “She is still working here, yeah," said Thursfield. "I have not been here long and she’s working, but we will obviously address that.” The owner said the incident took place "off-the-clock" and "off business property." NEW YORK – Director Joel Schumacher has died at the age of 80.Schumacher passed away in New York City after a year-long cancer battle, Variety and TMZ have confirmed through the filmmaker’s representation.The native of New York was perhaps best known for directing films in the 1980s and 90s, like “St. Elmo’s Fire,” “The Lost Boys,” “A Time to Kill” and multiple “Batman” films when Tim Burton left Warner Bros.Schumacher's films featuring the caped crusader were "Batman Forever" and "Batman & Robin." And although the movies received largely negative reviews at the time of their release, they've developed into cult classics for many. Netflix is cutting ties with "House of Cards" star Kevin Spacey as the actor faces a growing number of allegations of sexual harassment and assault. The actor has also been suspended from the show.In a carefully worded statement, the streaming network made clear that it would not continue to be involved with the show if Spacey has any part in the drama's future."Netflix will not be involved with any further production of 'House of Cards' that includes Kevin Spacey," a spokesperson for the network said. NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. — A New Port Richey, Florida man has been arrested after he allegedly raped a 15-year-old girl at his house while playing Grand Theft Auto, deputies say. The alleged rape was witnessed by another gamer who overheard the incident while playing the game with the suspect over PlayStation 4. Daniel Enrique Fabian, 18, was arrested on Wednesday, November 21 and charged with lewd and lascivious battery in connection to the incident which occurred on June 28, 2018. The 15-year-old girl was at Fabian's home at the time of the incident. Fabian is known to the victim. Fabian was playing Grand Theft Auto with another gamer when he told the other gamer he had a girl over at his house and he was going to "smash" her.Fabian stopped playing the game for 15 minutes and during that time, the other gamer says Fabian's microphone was still on and he could hear the victim moaning and saying "no." The victim told Fabian to stop four times, but he continued to have sexual intercourse with her, according to the arrest affidavit.After 15 minutes, Fabian resumed playing the video game with the other gamer. A Sexual Assault Victim Exam was done on the 15-year-old girl and the results supported the allegation of sexual abuse. Fabian was arrested and booked into the Land O' Lakes Detention Center. 1350
