(KGTV) - A couple in San Diego are spending the holiday telling everyone they know to register as an organ donor."People don't like to talk about their death, but rather than bury these organs or burn them up, you can save lives," says Nancy Marlin, who is recovering from a kidney transplant.Marlin had a genetic kidney disease and would have needed dialysis if not for the donation. Her new kidney came from a co-worker."I was so fortunate," says says. "Someone gave me the most amazing gift."It's a gift her family knows well. Marlin's husband, Fred Kolkhorst, had a heart transplant just 18 months ago after being diagnoses with heart failure."It changes you immensely in ways that are difficult to describe," he says.Kolkhorst and Marlin are rare in that they're a married couple who have both received donated organs. Sharp Memorial Hospital Transplant Coordinator Tammy Wright says she can't think of any couples in her 25 years in the field.Wright says the holidays are the perfect time for families to talk about their wishes in regards to organ donations."It's a time of giving," she says. "The simple thing is to tell your family what your wishes are. SAN FRANCISCO -- A massive fire broke out at a two-story commercial building in San Francisco Saturday night, according to KRON.The fire started inside the building and spread outward. The blaze took roughly 140 firefighters to extinguish.A total of eight people were displaced by the fire, but no one was injured.The cause of the fire is under investigation. 367

SAN DIEGO, Calif (KGTV) - In an effort to calm people's fears about new streetlights equipped with cameras and sensors, the City of San Diego will hold a public forum Wednesday night to answer questions and explain what the new technology does, and does not do.The meeting is from 5:30 to 7 pm, at the Malcom X Library on 5148 Market Street.Over the last two years, the city has installed more than 3,000 new streetlights that have "Smart City" technology built into them. According to the city, it can be used for research or to build apps to make life easier. The footage from the cameras isn't accessible to the public, and the cameras are not for surveillance. Also, the footage will only be stored on the camera for 5 days and then deleted.Police may only ask for footage after a crime is committed, and only as part of an investigation. According to the city, the footage has already been used to help SDPD solve a handful of crimes.Hooven also says the cameras will use GPS technology to ensure they only get footage of public spaces, and not areas that are expected to be private. The system uses a process called "curtilage" to blur any areas that shouldn't be shown.Hooven says the city is ready to answer any other questions people have about the new lights at Wednesday's meeting."Technology is coming and we're trying to embrace it to provide a lot of benefits to the city and save us money," she says. (KGTV) — Pacific Beach restaurants are open for dine-in service for the first time since the pandemic started."People look happy, people are just happy they don't have to cook for themselves right now, they have some place to go where someone can cook for them," Mavericks Event Manager Krista Marcheschi said.Mavericks is a popular destination for drinks and dancing weekend nights, but since the pandemic Marcheschi said they are adhering to the strict guidelines set by the county.RELATED: Encinitas lifeguards out in full force for Memorial DayMarcheschi said they closed on March 15th and reopened last week for take out.
