TOWSON, Maryland — A Maryland pharmacist pleaded guilty to trading pain medication for sexual acts.Richard Daniel Hiller, of Owings Mills, Maryland appeared in court Friday when his plea was announced by United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Robert K. Hur; Chief Terrence B. Sheridan of the Baltimore County Police Department and other law enforcement officials. “Abuse of oxycodone and other pharmaceutical drugs is one of our most significant drug enforcement challenges," said U.S. Attorney Robert K. Hur. "Those who divert pharmaceutical drugs for illegal purposes further the tragic cycle of addiction and the epidemic of opioid overdose deaths.” According to Hiller's plea agreement, he worked as a licensed pharmacist in Towson, Maryland from 2014 to 2017.Hiller admitted to filling fake prescriptions for multiple women if given sexual favors. He would tell the women to come to the pharmacy before opening and have sex with the women before giving the painkillers.Officials say, when trying to cover the false prescriptions he would list fake names. The women were addicted to oxycodone and would resell many of the pills to maintain their addiction.  Over the years, Hiller distributed approximately 20,500 15 milligram oxycodone pills.He faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison for the conspiracy and distribution. His sentencing is scheduled for November 15, 2018, at 10 a.m.  1507

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (AP) — A federal grand jury has indicted six men on charges of conspiring to kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.In October, the men were arrested in what authorities describe as a plot by anti-government extremists angry over the Democratic governor's policies to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.U.S. Attorney Andrew Birge announced in a statement that the indictment was handed down Wednesday.According to an indictment released Thursday, Adam Fox, Brandon Caserta, Ty Garbin, Kaleb Franks, and Daniel Harris, all of Michigan, and Barry Croft of Delaware, allegedly began to plan the kidnapping last summer.According to the indictment, they allegedly conducted surveillance of Whitmer's rural vacation home and practicing the use of firearms and explosives.On August 23, Garbin, Franks, and Caserta met up with Harris near his residence in Lake Orion, Michigan, to examine each other’s identification documents to make sure they weren't undercover law enforcement agents or informants, according to the affidavit.WXYZ reports that federal agents were infiltrated among the group as either confidential informants and undercover FBI agents.According to the indictment, Fox ordered ,000 worth of explosives from an undercover agent in September.Fox also ordered a taser in October, WXYZ reported. Fox was also photographed at the governor's summer home drawing a map of the property.According to WXYZ, Fox, Garbin, Franks, and Harris were arrested after showing up in Ypsilanti, Michigan, to pay the undercover FBI agent posing as a co-conspirator for the explosives. This past spring, teachers from West Virginia to Oklahoma walked out of their classrooms and onto the steps of state capitols to protest low pay, overcrowded classrooms and cuts to school funding.Oklahoma teacher Jacobi Crowley was one of the teachers who participated in the strikes.“I dunno if I can be a 20 to 40-year educator,” says Crowley. “I love my job and what I do, but if things do not get better, I might have to start looking at a different career.”If things go the way he hopes this November, he will have a different career as a state senator, one who sees education as priority number 1.“We have to be fully funded,” Crowley says. “That’s the number one thing.”Crowley is one of hundreds of teachers nationwide who decided to run for public office this year. In Oklahoma alone, more than 100 teachers filed to run, and over half of them made it through their primary races in June.“They are getting frustrated with seeing the lack of support, the lack of funding and the lack of leadership out of state legislators in Oklahoma City, making those things possible for educators to be successful,” Crowley expresses.Educators say it’s a frustration that’s been building for years.In 2011, teachers staged a walkout and camped out for weeks at the Wisconsin State Capitol, protesting Gov. Scott Walker’s bill that gutted their unions. Scott Walker this November.Cut in funding and teacher pay has been some of the core issues of the protests.
