SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A San Diego man who provided alcohol to an underage drinker who subsequently caused a crash that killed her passenger was sentenced to 240 days in custody, the City Attorney's Office announced Wednesday. Fraidoon Ahmad gave alcohol to Yolanda Lozano and Mabel Bahena, both 19, on Feb. 17, 2017. Lozano later drove while drunk and collided with a truck on Interstate 15, killing Bahena. Lozano pleaded guilty to gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and was sentenced to one year in custody, with Bahena's family asking a judge for leniency as the two women had been best friends since grade school. Ahmad pleaded guilty in May to misdemeanor charges of furnishing alcohol to a person under 21 and furnishing alcohol to a minor causing great bodily injury and death. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A pair of thieves stole a safe and pistol-whipped a woman during a home-invasion robbery in the Jamacha-Lomita neighborhood, police said Tuesday.The robbery happened shortly before 5:10 p.m. Monday at a group home on Blackstone Court, a short, dead-end street off Meadowbrook Drive south of Jamacha Road, San Diego police Officer John Buttle said.A man and a woman entered through the back door of the home, then began asking around for the manager of the home, Buttle said. When a 40-year-old woman told them the manager lived upstairs, the pair began looking around and the male suspect spotted a safe.The man picked up the safe and an altercation ensued, during which he pistol-whipped the 40-year-old victim, the officer said. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Officials Thursday publicly identified a woman whose body was found floating in Mission Bay last weekend.A visitor to Fiesta Island made an emergency call shortly after 6:30 a.m. Saturday to report spotting 36-year-old Anita Teres dead in the waters of the manmade harbor south of Pacific Beach, according to San Diego police.``Although there were no obvious traumatic injuries seen (on) the victim, due to the circumstances and the condition of the body ... homicide investigators were called to the scene out of an abundance of caution,'' Lt. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A young man who fatally stabbed an Ocean Beach transient was convicted Friday of second-degree murder.Noah Mitchell Jackson, 21, was found guilty in the June 22, 2017, killing of 65-year-old Walter "Ras" Riley. Jackson is slated to be sentenced on Aug. 23.The victim -- an Ohio native nicknamed "the Incense Man" due to his practice of selling aromatic burning sticks at local farmers' markets -- was stabbed just before 12:30 a.m. that day. However, Iredale denied this alleged motive, as he said his client had substance abuse problems that led him to make several "completely random statements" to friends following the date of the killing. The attorney said the spitting incident involving Jackson's sister never occurred and "God only knows" why he said it.Iredale alleged that police originally had 20 to 30 suspects, but centered on Jackson due to a 911 call made about 90 minutes prior to Riley's stabbing.In that call, a recording of which was played for the jury, the mother of one of Jackson's friends said Jackson was at her home displaying erratic behavior and was saying he wanted to commit suicide. He'd just gotten into an argument with his girlfriend, then left the house, she told a dispatcher.Iredale alleged the clothing description she provided police -- a white sweatshirt and jeans -- vaguely resembled the attire of a suspect captured on surveillance footage running through Ocean Beach following the killing.
