(KGTV) - The U.S. Navy said it has confirmed the death of the pilot in the crash of a fighter jet in the California desert. The single-seat F/A-18E Super Hornet crashed Wednesday morning in a canyon in Death Valley National Park where military aircraft conduct low-level training in an area known as Star Wars Canyon. Seven French tourists on the ground were treated for minor cuts and burns they suffered when they were hit by shrapnel. The Navy says the cause of the crash remains under investigation. The aircraft belonged to Strike Fighter Squadron VFA-151 based at Naval Air Station Lemoore in California's Central Valley. The Navy said in a statement Thursday that the pilot's identity will be withheld until 24 hours after notification of next of kin in accordance with Defense Department policy. 811

(KGTV) - It's now "Sir" Ringo Starr.Beatles drummer Ringo Starr, 77, was knighted at Buckingham Palace Tuesday by The Duke of Cambridge.Starr joins Paul McCartney as the band's only two members to be knighted. McCartney received his knighthood in 1997."It means a lot actually," Starr told the BBC. "It means recognition for the things we've done. I was really pleased to accept this."Starr, whose real name is Richard Starkey, told BBC he met with McCartney in Los Angeles last week. McCartney reportedly offered Starr advice for the ceremony, saying "keep smiling."It's not the first high-honor Starr has received at Buckingham Palace. In October 1965, the entire band was each awarded The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE), which recognizes contributions to the arts and sciences, charity, and public service. The MBE came at a time when rock and roll was still viewed as anti-establishment, prompting some past honorees to return their MBEs in protest. 1017

A 66-year-old woman was arrested and preliminarily charged Wednesday with driving into protesters in Indiana.According to the Associated Press, the woman police arrested was Christi Bennett.Hundreds of people were rallying and protesting through Bloomington Monday, following an alleged racist attack at Lake Monroe where several men attacked and apparently attempted to lynch Vauhxx Booker, a Monroe County Human Rights commissioner.Police say an electric scooter had been left in the roadway and a red Toyota passenger car drove up to it. (KGTV) - Two prominent San Diego County leaders are in Washington, D.C., Wednesday to meet with President Trump about California’s sanctuary state laws.County Supervisor Kristin Gaspar and Escondido Mayor Sam Abed are among the 16 California leaders who visited the White House to discuss California’s role in the national immigration landscape with the president. In April, both Abed’s city and the County Board of Supervisors voted in favor of supporting the Trump administration’s lawsuit against California over its sanctuary policies."Each of you has bravely resisted California's deadly and unconstitutional sanctuary state laws," Trump told the group gathered in Washington, D.C.During the Wednesday round table, Trump thanked the leaders, saying they had “bravely resisted California’s deadly and unconstitutional sanctuary state laws.Trump claimed those laws are forcing "the release of illegal immigrant criminals, drug dealers, gang members and violent predators into your communities" and providing "safe harbor to some of the most vicious and violent offenders on earth."Trump also said during the meeting that opposition to the sanctuary state laws are growing, adding that "There's a revolution going on in California."Gaspar told the president, "If you look around this room; your tiny but might team; this is what Gov. Brown classifies as low-life politicians. Well, here we are."Abed said, "We are with you. We need to build that wall; we need to end the sanctuary state.""The fact that we have this unsecured border is putting all of us at risk because we know that terrorists are coming in," San Juan Capistrano City Councilwoman Pam Patterson said.Governor Jerry Brown responded on twitter saying Trump is “lying on immigration, lying about crime and lying about the laws of CA.” 1822
