BEIJING, Oct.17 (Xinhua) -- China's civil aviation industry made profits of 9.1 billion yuan (about 1.33 billions U.S. dollars) in the first nine months of 2009, despite the punch by the financial crisis on the world's civil aviation industry, said the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) on Saturday.     Domestic air passenger traffic volume grew by 23.6 percent from a year earlier in first nine months of this year.     Performance of small airports, those that handle less than 1 million passengers annually, were most inspiring, said Li Jiaxiang, director with the CAAC, at the 2009 China International General Aviation Convention held in northwest China's Shaanxi Province on Saturday.     Li said that passenger volume of small airports grew 26.7 percent year on year to 14.87 million in the first half.     He contributed the vibrant performance of small airports and regional air routes to the more balanced economic development of China's different regions in recent years, which was the result of the country's strategies to develop the relatively poor western and central regions and to revive the old industrial base in northeastern regions.     Besides, the fact that Chinese people are becoming richer and CAAC's policies carried out last year to subsidize small and medium-sized airports and regional air routes also helped the passenger volume rise of small airports, said Li.     By the end of 2008, China had 116 small airports, accounting for 73 percent of the total number of the country's airports.

BEIJING, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- The Communist Party of China (CPC)plans to launch the third stage of its current campaign to deepen the study and practice of the Scientific Outlook on Development, the kernel ideology of the CPC Central Committee with Hu Jintao as the general secretary.     The third stage, which starts in September and ends in February2010, is designed to carry out at grassroots level, involving 1.22million Party organizations and 37.5 million Party members, accounting for 32.8 percent and 50 percent of the total numbers, respectively.     These were remarked by Xi Jinping, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau, at Friday's meeting here to summarize the experience of the second-stage of the CPC's educational drive and usher in the third stage.     The campaign was initiated by the CPC Central Committee in September 2008, with a goal to promote the study and practice of the Scientific Outlook on Development in the whole Party. KABUL, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- A China-bound Afghan plane with Kam Airlines landed on the airport of Kandahar city in southern Afghanistan Sunday night, said sources of Kabul International Airport.     An official in Kabul International Airport who was reluctant to disclose his name said the plane scheduled from Kabul, the capital city of Afghanistan, to Urumqi of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region has already landed on Kandahar airport.     "The plane would return to Kabul after two hours," he added. BUCHAREST, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping arrived here on Sunday to start his official visit to Romania after he concluded a visit to Hungary.     In a written statement upon his arrival at the airport, Xi said China and Romania have enjoyed long-term friendship, and they have enhanced political trust, cooperation in various areas, and coordination in dealing with international affairs since they forged diplomatic ties six decades ago.     Noting that the Chinese government values relations with Romania, Xi said his visit was to cement traditional friendship and reciprocal cooperation by taking the chance of 60th anniversary of bilateral ties. Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping (1st R) arrives in Bucharest for an official visit to Romania on Oct. 18, 2009    "I expect to exchange views with the Hungarian leaders on bilateral relations and international and regional issues of common concern," he said.     He also voiced his belief that the visit would promote traditional friendship and push forward the comprehensive, friendly and cooperative partnership with Romania.     Romania is the last leg of Xi's five-nation European tour.
