SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Green Flash Brewery has been sold to a new investment group, continuing a turbulent start to the year for the San Diego-based brewery.The company announced Monday the finalized sale to the group made up of "individuals with extensive experience" in craft beer and food and beverage industries.In a letter to shareholders published on The Full Pint, CEO Mike Hinkley said the company's lender, Comerica Bank, had "foreclosed on its loans and sold the assets of the company ... to WC IPA LLC."RELATED: National City adopts 'craft beer ordinance' to attract breweriesGreen Flash had reportedly taken on a loan for the development of a Virginia Beach, Va., brewery, which has also closed."As such, the Company no longer owns the Green Flash and Alpine businesses. Comerica Bank is currently conducting a separate process to sell the Virginia Beach brewery," the letter continued.The Virginia brewery closing followed that of Green Flash's Poway barrel-aging facility, Cellar 3, also closing this year. The Green Flash and Alpine Beer Company brands, the latter of which was picked up by Green Flash in 2014, will continue."The Green Flash and Alpine breweries will continue to operate in San Diego and Alpine, respectively," a release by the brewery said.In the letter, Hinkley blamed a "general slowdown" in the craft beer industry and increased competition as causes of the sell-off. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Firefighting cameras are blanketing California, shattering its goal of installing 650 cameras across California by 2022, thanks to the efforts of a UC San Diego professor and his team.The camera system, called ALERTWildfire, came from a need to confirm the ignition of a fire, and coordinate assets to be the most efficient and safe for the community.Geology Professor Neal Driscoll at UC San Diego is the Co-Director of ALERTWildfire and said just a couple of years ago it was a slow process confirming a fire sparked in the county."We’d have to send an engine to a mountaintop or launch an aircraft to verify ignition," Driscoll said.That wasted valuable time. ALERTWildfire allows fire command centers to find and assess a blaze with a few clicks on a computer.Cal Fire Captain Thomas Shoots said they look for key information from the cameras, "really just trying to hone in on where this fire is, what its potential is and who might need to be evacuated."The system launched in 2017 and now San Diego has 35 cameras across the county.The cameras pan, tilt and zoom on command and have a time-lapse function."The technology isn’t just good situational awareness, it’s also using that data and that information in real-time to evacuate people and save some more lives," Shoots said.Driscoll said they are continuing to grow the program, "locally I think we’ll cap out at 45-50."Shoots said they're working to grow to more than 1,000 cameras across the state by 2022 and Driscoll hopes to expand to other states like Colorado and Idaho.Driscoll advises the public to get familiar with the website, so in case of an emergency, you can be aware of your surroundings and evacuate safely.Driscoll also advised the public to RAP: Reduce risk, Activate your alerts, and Practice your plan. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Hours spent in after-school programs can play an important role in a child's development.Advocates say they're essential to closing the achievement and opportunity gap, providing underserved students with additional academic hours, enrichment activities, and a safe environment.While California fares better than many states when it comes to availability and affordability, some programs still end up filling to capacity.RELATED: Summer literacy program turning the page on povertyFor K-8 programming, before and after school programs are funded through the state of California's After School Education and Safety Program (ASES) or the federally-funded 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st?CCLC). California's ASES program is funded through a 2002 voter-approved initiative and current funding is 0 million for programming throughout the state. School sites receive funding based on their Free and Reduced Priced Meals (FRPM) rate through a competitive grant process.While the costs, demands, and expectations of ASES programs have consistently increased, advocates say the funding has not kept pace for over a decade.The 2017-18 budget raised the daily funding formula from .50 to .19 per student, only about half the funding needed to keep pace with the minimum wage.Some schools offer fee-based options in addition to their free programming.BY THE NUMBERSAccording to San Diego County Office of Education:K-8 students are also served at 21 independent charters throughout San Diego County. Some K-8 school sites are at full enrollment, while some school sites do not have full enrollmentSchools serving 9-12 students are able to through 21st CCLC (ASSETs) funding.
