A New Hampshire woman faces an animal cruelty charge after pushing her 11-year-old dog into a lake and watching it drown.Nancy Bucciarelli was arrested Friday. She is accused of taking her golden Labrador Retriever to Wasserman Park in Merrimack, about 29 miles south of Concord, on June 8 and then pushing it from a dock where it struggled to swim and eventually drowned, police said in a news release.An investigation by the department's animal control officer found the 66-year-old Bucciarelli made no attempt to rescue the dog, police said.Witnesses told investigators the dog appeared "old and easily winded," the release said. "Witnesses further advised that when they could see the dog struggling, they tried to render aid; however, it was too late."The dog drowned in 3 1/2 feet of water, police said.Bucciarelli surrendered to Merrimack police. After three mass shootings left at least 32 people dead in the span of a week, FBI Director Chris Wray has ordered the agency's offices across the country to conduct a new threat assessment in an effort to thwart future mass attacks, law enforcement sources told CNN.Field offices will be actively working to identify threats similar to the attacks last week at local food festival in California, a Walmart in Texas, and an entertainment district in Ohio, the sources said.A command group at the bureau's Washington headquarters will oversee the effort, the sources said.The agency said it was concerned that US-based domestic violent extremists could become inspired by the attacks to "engage in similar acts of violence.""The FBI asks the American public to report to law enforcement any suspicious activity that is observed either in person or online," the FBI said in a Sunday statement.Police found extremist material during the search of a home believed to be connected to the Gilroy Garlic Festival shooter, a law enforcement source said. Heavy rain is forecast across much of northern Florida, with totals up to 2 inches predicted.Extreme rain in the CarolinasThis storm will quickly begin to strengthen as it tracks up and along the East coast, impacting the Carolinas Tuesday. Within a 12-hour period beginning Tuesday morning, the winds will essentially double in strength along the Carolina coast and the rain will increase as the storm deepens in its central pressure.Sustained winds will swirl at 25 to 35 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph possible along the Carolina coastline through Wednesday morning. Heavy rain and strong northeasterly winds off the coast will lead to coastal flooding, especially in flood-prone areas. Rain totals of up to 4 inches are possible.Rip currents will also be a danger along the Southeast coast Monday, where the National Weather Service has issued a Rip Current Statement from St. Simons, Georgia, south to Jupiter, Florida. Boston could see wind gusts up to 35 mph and 1-2 inches of rain through Wednesday.The American model has the storm tracking farther off the coast, with less of an effect on coastal cities. However, the impacts over the open ocean are expected to be much more significant.
