You just kind of want to forget about it'The Hopp family saw it in the alfalfa. In the years after the explosion, they'd harvest the fields and find a bare spot in the crop. It was where a body fell into the ground, and the alfalfa didn't grow back. They'd find small items buried in the dirt; pens and eyeglasses, small personal effects that fell with the bodies. Up the road, the two engines from the plane stayed buried in the ground for several years, Conrad said. When one of their cows died shortly after the explosion, they found a hunk of metal lodged inside of it.Hopp's father wasn't a superstitious man, he said, but after the explosion, the longtime farmer refused to water the fields at night on the east side of the farm, where the wreckage landed. Hopp's brothers would say they heard ghosts. Hopp, himself, tries not to think about the explosion often. He tries not to think about it if he doesn't have to."It's something you put back in your mind," Hopp said. "You just kind of want to forget about it."Today, the rolling farmlands look about the same as they did in 1955, and Hopp can picture where everything happened. He can spot the two trees near where the tail of the plane landed. He can see where he and his brother took off across the farm toward the wreckage, where he saw that first body strapped in the airplane seat. The land will likely become a subdivision one day, Hopp said. He's seen the neighborhoods gradually grow across the area, as they have everywhere along the Front Range. And Hopp wonders if the people in those homes will know what landed in their backyards, if they'll know United Air Lines Flight 629 ever happened at all. 1666

with most Republicans voting against it."We are in the process of working that vote," Sen. John Thune, the second-ranking GOP leader and whip, when asked by CNN if he expects a majority of Senate Republicans to vote for the bill. "I'm hopeful and optimistic that when the time comes, we'll have the votes to get it done."Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is working to convince rank-and-file members to back the bill because it has a big increase in defense spending, a top GOP priority, and because Trump backs it."Given the realities of divided government, it is a strong deal that achieves my Republican colleagues' and my No. 1 priority: Continuing to invest seriously in rebuilding the readiness of our Armed Forces and modernizing them to meet the challenges of today," McConnell said. "The Trump administration has negotiated their way to a major win on defense. The House has passed the compromise legislation. The President is ready and waiting to sign it."But many conservative Republicans worry the package is just too expensive."At the end of the day, there's tremendous amounts of new spending, way over and above what we need to secure our national defense," said freshman Sen. Josh Hawley, a Republican from Missouri. "I think it's irresponsible and not for any clear purpose beyond the defense portion, which I support."The job of wrangling "yes" votes got harder for GOP leaders when Sen. John Kennedy, a Republican from Louisiana, who was leaning against the bill, announced publicly he would vote "no.""It does add additional money for defense," Kennedy said. "But I view if from a different perspective. I think we could have done a much better job, or at least tried harder, to save money."Kennedy predicted the bill will pass but couldn't say if more than half his GOP colleagues would support it."Yeah, I just don't know with how many Republican votes," he said. "I think you'll see more than just a handful vote against it for the reasons I just articulated."Sen. Cory Gardner, a Republican from Colorado up for reelection, said he is concerned "it's just a lot of money and at some point, things become so free, we can't afford it."One GOP senator on the fence acknowledged that some of his colleagues would like to vote against it to publicly demonstrate they are fiscally prudent while privately hoping it passes so there can be orderly governing out of Washington."There are a lot of people who will vote 'no' who hope to heck it passes," said the senator who did not want to be identified.Exact timing of the vote on the budget deal is not locked in yet but is expected to be announced by McConnell sometime Wednesday. 2652

Where's the evidence that (Arum) benefited from the class? Allred said. "I think the best evidence of Mr. Arum's feelings are what he says on that video."Allred said Arum has not apologized for his statements. She also called Pulev's apology "lip service," saying he only apologized to Ravalo in front of the commission in order to get his license reinstated. 359

Zillow senior economist Aaron Terrazas said, “Rental appreciation slowed between 2015 and mid-2017, but is once again picking up steam, reaccelerating over the past nine months. For-sale inventory is tight, and with home prices continuing their rapid climb, it’s becoming more and more difficult for renters to become owners, forcing them to rent longer than they otherwise would have. Searching for the ‘right’ home has become a drawn out affair and rising prices require more savings for a down payment. Were it not for strong new apartment construction over the past half-decade, rental appreciation would be even stronger than it is now.” 642

When the group got off the plane, they said a woman approached them and banned Zayas' mom from boarding their connecting flight to Cabo, citing “visible signs of intoxication.” 176
