Texas GOP Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick said after the nation's latest school shooting in Santa Fe, Texas, that teachers need guns, parents should secure firearms safely at home, and schools should eliminate some of their entrances."We need our teachers to be armed," Patrick said Sunday on CNN's "State of the Union."Patrick also called for "gun control at home," with firearms out of childrens' reach, but declined to say whether he would support requiring that by law, saying Texas holds gun owners "very responsible.""Be sure that your kids and grandkids or anyone who might have access to your home cannot get your guns," Patrick said. 639

Starting a business can be hard - it takes a lot more than renting an office and printing business cards. But a new group is launching in San Diego to help women take control of their careers.Dames Collective promises to connect female entrepreneurs to key resources and help them network, so they can launch their own businesses."We don't want to just stand by the sideline and watch women trying to start their own business. We want to help them thrive," said Chanel Sonego, who founded the group with Brittney Hogan.San Diego Attorney Kelly DuFord says her life was a lot different when she had a boss."I was working at least 80 hours a week, and I would bring my work home with me," she said. She says she was missing out on valuable time with her young daughters, so she and her husband Craig launched their own law firm. DuFord still works a lot, but on her own terms - she says she takes time off on Monday mornings and some Wednesdays, but works Saturday nights. DuFord, who does employment law and business formation, says she makes more now than she did when she had a boss."You might be doing something that you don't even know you can make a business out of, but if you are passionate about it and you can do a common thing uncommonly well, you can start your own business," she said. Memberships at Dames Collective are a month, but Sonego says the group is working on lower cost options for students. The city of San Diego also has guidelines for starting a business, including 10 key steps entrepreneurs need to make.   1605

Target says they are kicking off the holiday season early this year by bringing back its 2-day sales event "Deal Days."The sales event is scheduled for Oct. 13 and 14, with more than double the deals than last year, the company announced.“This year, in a holiday season unlike any other, we know it’s more important than ever for our guests to get great deals in a convenient and safe shopping environment,” said Christina Hennington, executive vice president, and chief merchandising officer, Target, in the press release. “By kicking off our holiday deals earlier than ever, offering Black Friday pricing throughout the full month of November and extending our Price Match Guarantee, we’re letting guests know they don’t need to wait or face the crowds to get the best deals, all with no membership fees required.”Their event will be done alongside Amazon’s Prime Day, CNN reported.Target also added that they’d be offering Black Friday deals throughout the entire month of November for the first time.Last week, the company said they would be doubling its staff who will be solely responsible for contactless shopping options, like its “Drive Up” service.Target said they expect to hire the same amount of seasonal workers this year as they did in 2019, which was more than 130,000. 1293

Subpoenas have been served on the Trump Organization and a dozen linked entities in a lawsuit challenging President Donald Trump's ongoing business ties while in office. The office of District of Columbia Attorney General Karl Racine said Wednesday that it "can confirm that all of the Trump Organization entities have been served." Additionally, subpoenas are being served to the state of Maine, the attorney general's office said. The lawsuit by DC and Maryland claims Trump is in violation of the Constitution's ban on emoluments, or payments, from foreign or domestic government entities to the President because of his continued interest in the Trump International Hotel.DC and Maryland have said the Trump International Hotel's operations put other nearby hotels and entertainment properties at a competitive disadvantage, and that the Trump hotel got special tax concessions. The hotel won its lease on federally owned property before Trump's election.A federal judge set in motion the schedule for DC and Maryland attorneys general to begin collecting evidence in the case. The plaintiffs say they also plan to subpoena 18 entities that compete with the Trump Hotel. The Justice Department has signaled it may challenge the evidence-gathering process. The case is proceeding just as the Trump Organization prepares for a flurry of investigations from House Democrats once they take control of Congress in January. The Trump Organization has not responded to requests for comment on the case. 1532

Stormy Daniels' former manager, who helped broker her confidentiality agreement, is cooperating with the FBI as part of its probe of an arrangement she struck with Donald Trump's lawyer, according to a source with knowledge of the investigation.Gina Rodriguez responded to a subpoena by handing over records to the FBI. Some of those documents pertain to the 2016 hush money agreement signed by Daniels and Michael Cohen, President Trump's personal attorney. Cohen signed the agreement on behalf of a shell company he owned known as Essential Consultants LLC, according to the source.Rodriguez has signed a confidentiality agreement that keeps her from talking about the Daniels deal with Cohen, the source said.In the documents Rodriguez handed over to the FBI, there is evidence that Daniels -- an adult film star whose legal name is Stephanie Clifford -- was working an initial deal with Cohen on October 10, 2016. Daniels was being represented in that deal by Rodriguez and Daniels' then-attorney Keith Davidson, according to the same source. As CNN previously reported, that deal fell through when Cohen failed to pay the money. Eighteen days later, the second deal was finalized by Daniels and Cohen.Around the same time negotiations with Cohen were going on behind the scenes, Daniels and her manager were shopping a story to several media organizations about Daniels' alleged affair with Trump a decade ago.Cohen has said that the President did not have a sexual relationship with Daniels. Trump has said he knew nothing of the financial arrangement between his lawyer and Daniels. But during a recent phone interview with Fox News, Trump said Cohen "represents me like with this crazy Stormy Daniels deal, he represented me."Daniels is suing Cohen and Trump, and Essential Consultants LLC, in federal court in California over the legality of the 2016 hush agreement in which she was paid 0,000 to keep quiet about her alleged affair with Trump. 1972
