SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - With seniors across the state being told to stay “self-isolated,” local governments and non-profits are working to make sure basic needs are taken care of. Serving Seniors, a non-profit that serves meals to low-income seniors, says it has closed all of its senior centers and congregate meals. Instead, it has ramped up its home meal delivery operation and to-go services. “We have the capacity but it is causing some significant logistical challenges,” said Paul Downey, CEO of Serving Seniors. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Video taken in Mexico shows dozens of migrants climbing over the border fence in Border Field State Park. The video, provided to 10News by Joebeth Terriquez Espinoza with AFN, a news agency in Mexico, shows people successfully climbing over the fence and onto the beach on the U.S. side of the border just after 4 p.m. A spokesperson for Border Patrol says agents arrested people as soon as they crossed, preventing anyone from getting away. A total of 24 people, 18 men and six women, were taken into custody. According to Border Patrol, 23 of the people who crossed the border illegally were from Honduras while the 24th person was from Guatemala. RELATED: Asylum seekers waiting in Mexico arrive for hearings in US"The Tijuana Police Department responded to the scene, successfully dispersing a large crowd still south of the barrier, deescalating the situation," the spokesperson told 10News. All 24 people arrested were taken to a nearby Border Patrol station for processing. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — With the pandemic prompting San Diegans to wear facial coverings, and practice physical distancing and stringent hand hygiene, flu season's start has been slowed.According to the county's Influenza Watch report published Oct. 21, San Diego County has reported 10 flu cases to date this season, compared to 320 cases at this time last year. Last year's season totaled 20,711 flu cases.The county says no influenza-related deaths have been reported so far this season. The CDC says the flu season in the U.S. typically occurs in the fall and winter, with the season peaking in December and February.County health officials say health precautions due to the coronavirus and an increase in the rate of residents receiving flu vaccinations have kept flu numbers low so far."Influenza activity has been very low so far this season in San Diego County. This may in part be due to the social distancing, hand washing, and mask wearing interventions instituted to reduce the transmission of SARS-CoV2, the virus that causes COVID-19. Seasonal influenza vaccinations are being recorded in the San Diego Immunization Registry at a higher rate than at this same point in any previous season, with 637,696 San Diegans immunized through week 42," the county's report said.Week 42 covers case totals up to the week ending Oct. 17.According to the county, 70% of this year's flu cases cover Influenza A, while 30% include Influenza B. 1445

SAN DIEGO (KGTV)— A Point Loma boy must now walk to and from school after a thief stole his custom BMX bike. San Diego Police need the public's help to find the man who took the boy's prized possession. BMX riding is 9-year-old Bradley Ramos' favorite pastime. It's a passion that runs in the family. His father, Aaron, dabbled it in as a child. So did Bradley's cousin, Tyler."This bike was actually his cousin's bike when his cousin was his age. Now his cousin is 21 years old, so the bike has been in the family for a while," Ramos said. That was, until Memorial Day morning. Bradley's mother noticed the bike was missing from their front porch."My bike and my helmet got stolen," Bradley said. The family's security camera captured a man walking away with Bradley's bike. The video shows the young man with arm tattoos wearing a hat and backpack. He looks to be wearing glasses and a distinctive white watch."It kind of sucks because I have to get rides to school now when usually, I'd ride my bike and it's way quicker," Bradley said. The bike theft is the second in as many weeks for the Ramos family. Last Monday, thieves made off with at least ,500 worth of tools from Ramos' work truck. "Since that's been happening, we've been bringing the bike in, and we didn't do it just that one night, and it was gone," Ramos said. The BMX bike has thin red wheels with a racing number plate in the front handlebars. It's not a common model, so the Ramos family is asking people to keep an eye out, and alert authorities if they spot it. To the man who made off with the Ramos' family heirloom, Bradley and his father have a stern message. "Give it back, and never come back to this neighborhood again," Bradley said. If you have done business with the city in the past three years, you may be due funds from to ,797. Some of the funds are reimbursement checks sent by the city that were undeliverable based on the address on file. Any check uncashed after 6 months becomes unclaimed. “We want to refund every single dollar of unclaimed money,” said Fanela Espiritu, Disbursements Manager with the Department of Finance. “A simple search is all it takes to verify if you were issued a check that has gone unclaimed. There is no charge to search the data or to file a claim.” There are more than 2,100 accounts, city officials said.
